To those indoctrinated Albertans who believe that "Alberta pays the lionshare of Canada's taxes", which we have heard repeated SO MUCH over this referendum, here are the actual facts:
Ontario contributes the largest portion of taxes at 41.8% ($92.39 billion), followed by Quebec at 19.7% ($43.55 billion), British Columbia at 14.9% ($33.04 billion), and Alberta at 13.9% ($29.9 billion).
The four largest provinces (Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta) account for over 90% of all federal tax collected across the country, but Alberta is at the bottom of those four with Ontario contributing 3x what Alberta does.
These graphs are off of the 2024 tax year, which is the "2026 edition" (aka newest edition) from the Government of Canada. The first graph is from the Government of Canada website along with all the data tables which populated it, and the second pie chart was interpreted from the same data.
