@drj@typo.social Every day is Bitmap Font Day when the only version of Helvetica you have installed is the bitmap version that ships with X11, and you have bitmap fonts allowed in your fontconfig. I see *a lot* of Web sites rendered in bitmap Helvetica. :D

@drj@typo.social I have zero artistic talent but I can write code and drink beer and judge.

@drj@typo.social Not crazy. When I was in high school, in the heydays of home computers, I used to buy graph paper just to design bitmap fonts. Later, after I moved to the PC platform, I found a program that could load bitmap fonts into EGA and VGA text modes. I even wrote an editor to create my own.

@drj@typo.social a week? A whole week? You could make one of those days a ‘world 7-segment font day’ and perhaps one hour of that, ‘14 (or other) segment font hour’. And a special minute of silence to commemorate the Nixie tube

@drj@typo.social Huh, I've just recently made a tiny bitmap font to use in my projects ^_^

@drj@typo.social I'd be in, would ideally get something blog-shaped back in order but I'd happily write something about tiny bitmap fonts... would need to dig up some notes though and do some additional research but tiny bitmap fonts have always tickled my fancy the right way

@drj@typo.social Bitmap fonts? Sounds like a niche thing. I’m in.
