In case all the Enron- and WorldCom-like accounting shenanigans haven't convinced you, here's another blatant sign the wheels are falling off the "AI" hype train. A contract or memorandum of understanding (or any other written form of agreement) for *half a trillion US dollars* makes no sense at all. It's all just PR, "Look, it's real, please keep hyping our stock, I do too have clothes on!". https://wccftech.com/nvidia-inked-a-500-billion-agreement-with-sk-hynix-and-then-jensen-huang-asked-for-one-more-beer/ (For bonus points, it also calls for Nvidia to invest in SKHynix, so more accounting shenanigans...) #AI #hype #Nvidia #SKHynix #MOU #grift #Enron #WorldCom

@cazabon@mindly.social Momentarily putting environmental effects aside--as I believe these businesses tend to do as long as they can--what re the business and fiscal implications of a sketchy business model? One possibility I envision is "Too big to fail" hits on the public coffer. A complement, or an alterrnative, is winnowing. Remember all those hopeful nuclear startups that stalled and often shuttered halfway (before we went all antiregulatory)? At this point, AI plants are a big growth sector, both for the money men and for large construction firms. If they falter, we could see wide economic ramifications. I can't see AI going away. However, I don't trust the up-up-up.
