@patc@pdx.social I was recently required to download the desktop version of Adobe to complete a project, and saw all this AI noise and wondered if it was always this way, while also low key resenting the people who required me to use this software. And it’s also takes up like 2 Gig of space, and for what? Just to read PDFs a certain way?! It just sucks all around.

@patc@pdx.social I know a lot of people who genuinely do that. Instead of reading a dry 30 page strategy report or whatever they listen to a somewhat engaging podcast version of it while doing the dishes or whatnot

@patc@pdx.social I mostly use the Adobe reader on my laptop to view knitting patterns and it keeps offering me AI summaries of my knitting pattern, which would, y'know, render the whole point of the knitting pattern useless. Now I am imagining a horrible AI podcast made from my knitting patterns and just. Wow. That's even more useless. I didn't think it was possible to be more useless than the previous AI summary stuff but here we are.

@patc@pdx.social In a university class I attended a year ago my professor generated a so-called "podcast" from her lecture script and played it in class. It was honestly disgusting. Hearing human-like robot voices "talk to each other" about lecture contents, randomly switching from 2 to 3 "speakers" and back was pure horror.
