@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe @KitsuneVixi@sakurajima.social @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org @Bahay@social.vivaldi.net To be clear, "just fork it" is a reasonable thing to say about a small project with a few dozen people. For a operating system kernel? Literally millions of lines of code and thousands of experts in specific areas will be lost. You'd have to be a well funded organization able to recruit and pay for the expertise you'd no longer have available to you.
I worked on the Windows kernel, this is not at all a trivial undertaking. Linus knows this.

@chadmccullough@mastodon.bsd.cafe @KitsuneVixi@sakurajima.social @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org @Bahay@social.vivaldi.net This is also why Linus is an asshole for not transitioning to an organization where he is just one voice among many. Linux is far too big and far too critical to be held to the whims of one man. Decisions like the one he just made should have been discussed by a board, proposals should have been put forward, and stakeholders should have voted.
