I'm surprised to have not run across this #forth article from 2019 until now (thanks, @LeadedSolder)! It's a clear-eyed look at #Forth from someone who describes it in modern terms and is not blinded by its advantages or disadvantages. https://blog.information-superhighway.net/what-the-hell-is-forth

Star Wars Galactic Racer is quite good. Pure adrenaline and nerves.

Well, we are done. The shop will be closing. This is such a niche business that the only way that it can stay afloat is access to the #EU free market. The new #PPWR and #epr laws have effectively closed the EU free market to us... This EU law is going to hurt so many people. I will keep the shop open till the end of the year so my customers have the chance to stock up on stuff before we are gone. I hope the #eucommission is happy.

Comic frames for the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which (no spoilers, it's in the trailer) will feature Spidey teaming up with the Punisher and fighting the Hulk. On the left is The Amazing Spider-Man #328, from November 1989, cover by Todd McFarlane. This issue was part of the Acts of Vengeance crossover, during which Spidey was imbued with immense cosmic powers. Ordinarily an angry Hulk could smash Spidey like a, er, spider, but in this issue our friendly neighborhoo...

I continue to be very relieved that I am no longer employed by my former employer. Getting fired was the best career move I ever made.

Ray Bradbury's 1950 short story "There Will Come Soft Rains" was adapted in the November 1952 issue of Weird Fantasy, drawn by the incredible Wally Wood. You can read the whole thing on the Internet Archive but here are the last three panels scanned from a 1990 reprint in my collection (spoilers for a 76 year old story). https://archive.org/details/there-will-come-soft-rains-part-6/

Currently reading Strata, by Terry Pratchett. Or re-re-re-reading, since I've read it three times before. This was Sir Pterry's third novel, first published in 1981, and features an artificial flat Earth two years before his first Discworld novel. If you're a Pratchett fan who has mostly read Discworld, it's worth seeking out Strata. This one is science fiction rather than fantasy but you can see him exploring some of the same ideas that later recurred in the Dis...

Dammit, not Peter Cullen, too. This has been a bad week for iconic voices.

Spotted another Cybertruck in the wild. Every time I see one in person I'm just bewildered that there are real people driving Cybertrucks around in public where everyone can see them. What if somebody recognizes them? How embarrassing.

Wall comics for spooky season: vampires and werewolves! Can't go wrong with the classics. These are early 90s Gladstone reprints of the early 50s EC comics (the originals are way over my budget). On the left is Tales from the Crypt #6 (1991), a double issue that reprints the original TftC #42 (1954) as well as Crime SuspenStories #27 (1954). The cover is by the great Jack Davis. On the right is Tales from the Crypt #2 (1990), a double issue reprinting OG TftC #35 (1952) and Crime Suspe...

Oh dear. I think I have stumbled my way into a new expensive hobby.

I watched The Post (2017, dir. Steven Spielberg) the other night. Good movie, fine performances by Hanks and Streep, etc, but yall there are some GORGEOUS closeup sequences of a Linotype machine in operation. Squee!

On November 3rd, somewhere in the late afternoon, the relentless onslaught of political campaign advertising will suddenly cease and we'll have about five seconds to enjoy a few peaceful breaths before it's all immediately replaced by a relentless onslaught of "Black Friday" consumption advertising. I'm tired.

@Irisfreundin ja!
