@doctroid@vmst.io Exactly right. While we're on the subject, just from a pure manufacturing perspective, batteries are awful. Shipping them is a pain as many countries and couriers have different - sometimes conflicting - requirements for them. Sourcing them is scary, too; you never know when you're going to get a batch that blows up in your face.

Jim and Gina Barry are our new friends and fellow Canadians. They've been kind enough to add us to their database of Canadian manufacturers. Like us, they're proud of our great northern heritage, and they spend a little time each day shining a spotlight onto the other members of our cozy Canadian manufacturing landscape. Database listing is here: https://manufacturedin.ca/ontario/ploopy-corporation Thanks, Jim and Gina!

Did something happen to the libranet.de friendi.ca server? I haven't logged in in years and it said my account was blocked. I don't know why but also don't know how to contact support.

@PeryleneBleu Thank you - that's what I thought it was but couldn't find clear instructions online for how to safely mitigate. Warm water is enough? Would something stronger be needed for the bookshelves? I don't want to damage paint. I guess after wiping some lysol type spray could be used?

Disappointing but perhaps not surprising. Corporate America is shifting to the right - Meta removed hate speech protections months ago. Will European professionals join a different networking platform? https://opentermsarchive.org/en/memos/linkedin-removes-transgender-hate-speech-protections/

A brief update: I've been job-hunting since a Jan layoff. Am considering moving into consultant work, with creative blogging and gothy product design on the side. Contemplating a move abroad.

So I had deleted all my tweets on X a couple years ago...and then X locked me out. But strangely my account says I still have 6k tweets viewable to my followers. I hope none of them are fraudulent posts. I can't even remember who may be followers that are still on there that I could ask to check.

@rickf I think I used to follow you on the old site, but I could be wrong. You don't happen to have access do you? lol

The last version of #Windows I personally used regularly was version 3.1. After that, it was OS/2, FreeBSD, and then #Debian, which I have stuck with since 1996. So when I was installing Windows 98 on my old K6-3/400 machine last night, it was probably the first time I had ever installed Windows 98. Much to my surprise and amusement, one of the installer's splash screens touted built-in support for Usenet newsgroups. Probably for both the first and the last time. 1/

I was down to 10MB free on the 130MB drive in my 486SX/25 (I'm the original owner of it!). I had a nice 8GB drive sitting around. Oh the horrors of getting DOS to see more than 500MB, sigh. It's fun to play with things I haven't used in decades. But it's also a reminder of some of the reasons I switched to Linux, and how much better hardware and software is now. Spent a few hours deconflicting IRQs and DMAs for my SoundBlaster 16 earlier in the week, too.

I believe in the possibility of restorative justice, but it is not appropriate to maintain the the instance where such a gross violation of trust was perpetrated is the appropriate venue for that restoration to take place. The eightpoint admin team is 100% in the wrong in that position. I'm not even talking about the longstanding accusations - just the most recent violations of trust. At the same time, I'm conflicted on de-federating with eightpoint as it doesn't provide...

Based on my short experience with Mastodon, participation here seems to require multiple accounts

@JessTheUnstill @mods Ok, yes. This is correct.
-
Seriously considering going the single user instance route.

Recommendations on turnkey Mastodon hosting, preferably that supports glitch-soc?

So, apparently the one good part I saw in this, the transparency, was bullshit.
