On 11 and 12 May this year large parts of the Western Cape, South Africa experienced heavy rainfall, swallowing vineyards, tearing through cellars, and rising two metres high, they left behind a landscape unrecognisable. The vineyards had its fertile topsoil stripped away, generations of work buried under shoulder deep river sand. Among the wreckage in the Robertson Valley, submerged in dark water and thick river silt, lay over a million bottles of wine. When the water finally receded, what remained looked like total devastation. Mud-caked glass. Scuffed, peeling, waterlogged labels. Presentation ruined. It would have been easy to call it a total loss. To discard them. But when they cleaned the bottlenecks, they found something extraordinary: the seals held. Against the full weight of the river, against debris and rising water, the wine inside remained untouched, pure, and exactly as the winemakers had intended. Now these muddy, water-marked bottles aren’t being hidden away or discarded. We can't export this but its being shared and sold here; Flood Wine we call it and it's a symbol of defiance and hope. 🍷 #SouthAfrica #Wine #Hope

Well y'all, Linux stuff is happening fast. Cthulhu is a fork of Orca with like lots of stuff. Wine runs Windows programs on Linux.

If Cthulhu is running, the Wine Accessibility plugin is enabled, and the helper package is installed, you should only need to launch the Wine or Proton program normally.

Cthulhu will automatically:

  • Detect the active Wine/Proton prefix.
  • Start the helper inside that prefix.
  • Read supported standard Windows controls.
  • Accept speech requests from programs using NVDA Controller or Tolk.

It won’t automatically make custom-drawn or DirectX game interfaces accessible. Those need built-in self-voicing through NVDA Controller/Tolk or future game-specific support. There might also be a short delay of up to roughly two seconds while Cthulhu discovers a newly started Wine process.
