i have seen many people from pennsylvania say that this is a pennsylvania staple and i am also told it broke out throughout the midwest and i can absolutely see it as part of a hundred lutherian church potlucks every summer
also this is kind of a second go of this for me as a simpler version of this went around tumblr like 10 years ago and I tried it and was very disappointed. this version has more ingredients (salt, cream cheese) and also adds more preparation steps that definitely should matter. i can say that the cream layer is dramatically better than the tumblr version already. it’s legit good. hopefully it will all mesh this time!

it is moderately abrupt but not as quick as lots of other processes; also, it’s probably a little further along than you think.
