Midweek MediaWatch this week covered the chorus of journalists opining on Nicky Hager's methods;

If your goal as an investigate journalist is to expose the corrupt practices of powerful and totally unprincipled people, you have to work defensively.
Lazy hacks working in comfortable corporate media jobs have never been in that situation. Because they see their role as both-sides-ing everything. Which works very nicely for people running influence operations.

Unsealed documents reveal Microsoft executives' awareness that Ai scraping under the guise of fair use was, "...the greatest theft of labor in human history."
Side effect: Mining news for Ai training also decimated news organizations' ability to perform their important public service.
In defense of Ai, though, the use of automated plagiarism is dumbing down the population to the point where there will soon be nothing left worth scraping.

#bubblewatch update:
It's good seeing this kind of thing in #newsmedia consumed by average people. It's bad seeing this kind of thing glossing over the details to the extent it becomes unconvincing in order to be consumed by average people.
The #AI #bubble could be worse than the dot-com bust. https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/5925202-tech-bubble-ai-driven-growth/
But with both the broader economy and the ongoing bull market relying heavily on a concentrated AI-driven boom, the fallout from a burst bubble could be severe.
Yesterday, Andy Burnham took the train down to London to attend Parliament on his first day back as an MP....
And Sky News followed the train in a helicopter the whole way offering a live feed for the news of his progress.
Did Sky calculate taking the helicopter was cheaper than paying for train tickets for the film crew?
Did the news want to gain a similar effect as from a state funeral?
What is going on with the news?
Who knows?

We're jumping on a plane and heading to Perugia for #IJF26
This year, we're looking forward to talking to even more people in the world of journalism who believe in community and protecting news values. We hope that they can see the future of the Social Web is a solution for journalists.
At our lunch event, we'll be highlighting combined efforts across the Open Social Web, including both AP and ATProto. We hope it's a success!
