Last night, my husband took me to see "A Life Illuminated" about Dr. Edith Widder, the first marine biologist to document deep ocean #bioluminescence. To me, the #film served as a reminder to leave room in our minds for the beautiful, magical things that exist in this life that we don't often hear about or that remain unseen. Check and see if this #movie is coming to a theater near you. https://www.alifeilluminated.com/ #MarineBiology #science #OceanScience

💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🪸🧴 Coastal #invertebrates are colonizing #plastic debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, thousands of kilometers from shore. Reproductive populations were found across 105 debris samples collected between 2018 and 2019. The study suggests plastics are creating a new kind of floating #habitat. 👉 https://www.zmescience.com/science/news-science/coastal-animals-colonize-ocean-plastic/ #garbagepatch #pacific #ocean #pollution #marinebiology #biology #neopelagic #ecosystem #ecology #nature #science

The Chambered Nautilus is one of the oldest surviving marine species on Earth, with a lineage that dates back more than 500 million years. Long before dinosaurs existed, these creatures were already drifting through ancient oceans, and remarkably, they have changed very little since then. Unlike octopuses or squids, the nautilus retains an external shell, divided into chambers that help control buoyancy. #Nautilus #DeepSea #MarineBiology #OceanScience #LivingFossil #OceanFacts #globalmuseum
