This last 10 minute boil addition was huge! 9.5kg of hops with some extra yeast nutrient and kettle finings. Kettle before and after. It was a very feisty cauldron. Terrifying, actually. To tame it, I hose down the exterior dome of the kettle and this is usually enough to settle things. I found myself backing away and being quite enthusiastic with the hose. #KereruWhalePlayed

The runnings in the grant at the mid point gives a good indication of final colour of the beer. I think that is a decent red IPA colour. #KereruWhalePlayed brew day at @kererubrewing@mastodon.social

A drop of iodine added to the first runnings at @kererubrewing@mastodon.social shows that there is no starch present. The Specific Gravity (SG) is 1.105. This is very sweet and sticky! #KereruWhalePlayed
