Two pristine hummingbird hawkmoths in the walled garden this afternoon. It was interesting to see the enthusiasm for Ceratostigma. An even bigger surprise was that Dianthus carthusianorum was highly favoured.

My first time seeing a Hummingbird Hawk Moth. It's little wings buzz fast like a hummingbird's - this photo was taken at 1/2000 of a second but hasn't frozen the wings completely - and they fly sideways and even a little bit backwards at times just like their namesake. Quite exciting to see one, really!
