Most work is unpaid labour. »The truth is that a guaranteed adequate income for everybody is the only answer to poverty in this country« »If I were paid for all the work I did every day, I’d be rich.« -- Johnie Tillmon, in her essay »Welfare Is a Women’s Issue« #ECIUBI2027 #basicincome#genderPayGap #poverty Sign our ECI starting jan, 4th 2027: https://basic-income.eu

More than 50% of work is not paid at all - mostly in household and care. This work receives no financial compensation. While women already earn 12% less than men when it comes to paid labor, if unpaid labor is factored in, the real pay gap widens dramatically: women earn 45% less than men. Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) would help immensely here. #genderpaygap #basicincome #UBI #eciubi2027https://wid.world/document/global-labour-hours-in-paid-and-unpaid-work-inequality-productivity-and-structural-transformation-1800-2100-world-inequality-lab-working-paper-2025-08/ https://basic-income.eu/

Juni 2026 in nationales Recht umsetzen müssen.

Tesco's fight back against claims the pay fro warehouse staff is higher than for shop floor staff because the former are mainly men & the latter women is under way at an employment tribunal. Tesco's claims pay differentials are based on operational need & material differences; responding to 'economic reality'; whether this can defeat longstanding accusations of sexism in pay rates at the firm will have significant further impact on the gender pay gap! #retail #GenderPayGap #sexism h/t FT
