"In effect, the rest of #Canada is being asked to subsidize the #oilsands into global competitiveness. This is an impossible task and a profound misallocation of public resources at a moment of converging #climate, #environmental, economic and security crises." https://www.nationalobserver.com/2026/07/30/opinion/pathways-carbon-capture-oilsands-subsidy #cdnpoli #BigOil #fossilfuelSubsidies #climateCriminals

Pathways is a costly climate fiction — and Canadians are paying for it

The 2025 Alberta–Carney agreement explicitly links pipeline construction to the Pathways project. Despite record profits — $37 billion for oilsands producers in 2023 — Canadians are being asked to finance infrastructure that increases emissions while private companies reap the benefits.

I see on Our World In Data that The Netherlands charges almost $100 per tonne of CO2. I wonder if this takes into account that we indeed have rules to charge this, but that only small emitters like consumers pay this, and for large polluters we have fossil subsidies. 👉 https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/carbon-price-vs-share-emissions 👉 https://mas.to/@erwinrossen/111025115687360519 #FossilFuels #CO2 #ClimateChange #CarbonTax #FossilFuelSubsidies
