It was quite peaceful sitting and reading a book with Alice last night (I was reading the book silently, not to Alice...), but it was clear she wasn't going to have babies soon. So I went to bed. I came back out to the barn at 2am, and she had just pushed out her second baby! I got them all toweled off and under the heat lamp, and she laid down and pushed out a 3rd baby! Well done, Alice! Now up to 5 mamas with 12 babies for the #BabyGoatCountdown

It's pretty warm* so I brought the baby goats out earlier than yesterday. They mostly followed their mamas, but needed some extra encouragement** to get over the snowy part. *for Saskatchewan. Just slightly below freezing. **I had to pick them all up and carry them. #BabyGoatCountdown

I bet by day 3 of this routine, the babies will be trotting along with no help. But the first couple of days are always very hard to get the babies to walk from the barn to the eating pen! #BabyGoatCountdown

I have to say that sitting on a warm pile of hay in the sun underneath a blanket of sleeping baby goats is the absolute best part about farming. #BabyGoatCountdown

Also got some good action shots of meeting the guardian dogs and guardian llama. They all approve of the new herd additions. #BabyGoatCountdown

No new baby goats in the #BabyGoatCountdown, but the 5 I've got are still ridiculously cute. It will be warm enough (FINALLY) to get them outside in the sun later this morning. Their mamas will be VERY happy to be back with the whole herd, they are getting bored. And there were auroras again for the 2am barn check! Not quite as spectacular as the night before, but still quite good! (And I see we've reached Starlinks-visible-all-night time of year already at this latitude. Sigh.)

#BabyGoatCountdown is at 1 day! And no babies yet, just a lot of very round mamas. *looks at weather forecast. Sees snowstorm coming* OH yeah, they'll definitely wait until tomorrow.

Still no baby goats!! It's pretty nice out right now, and they are all going to wait until the weather turns to absolute shit tonight and tomorrow to have their babies. How fun. Seriously, 25cm of snow tomorrow?!! UGH. I mean... Yes we need the moisture. Yay. Grumble grumble. #BabyGoatCountdown

Trying to edit a stupid FCC comment on Yet Another Fucking Stupid Orbital Data Center (fuck you, Blue Origin) and I need to go outside and rage-scream for a while. And I have an easily accessible hayfield to rage-scream in!! (Also maybe baby goats, I'll check for those too #BabyGoatCountdown)

Goat and dog chaos in the sunshine! #BabyGoatCountdown is at 4 days Also I didn't tell you all earlier, but due to weird constraints from travel, there are actually FIVE goats who are due to kid in 4 days. The most I've ever had kid in one day previously was two. This will be... even more chaotic than a normal kidding year. Weeee.
