The Moray coast and #Aberdeenshire are not the most visited parts of #Scotland, but I am just back from #cycling Route EV1 from Inverness to Aberdeen. The route was delightful, encompassing moorland and forest from Inverness to Nairn, fishing villages/towns on the Moray coast, and fertile farmlands in Aberdeenshire. Ups & downs but not too hilly. Highly recommended. #biketoot

Tranquil Deer Abbey in Aberdeenshire, founded in 1219. It was at a nearby predecessor monastery that the "Book of Deer" (or Deir) was written some time in the 900s, containing the earliest written Scottish Gaelic yet discovered. The Aikey Brae Stone Circle stands in a wonderfully secluded location at the summit of Parkhouse Hill near Maud and is the most original, complete, and "unimproved" stone circle on view in northern Aberdeenshire. The magnificent Dunnottar Castle on the Aberdeenshire coast south of Stonehaven. Probably a defensive site for two thousand years or more, no other Scottish castle comes close in terms of a sense of sheer brooding impregnability. Two years ago tonight I was fortunate to witness one of the best displays of the Aurora Borealis that I have ever seen. A remarkable sky lit up to the naked eye and made more unique as it was covering most of the southern sky. The first shot is a stitch of around eighteen individual shots in order to fit the whole display into one frame #Aurora #NorthernLights #Aberdeenshire #Scotland
