Copilot? You mean the AI with terms of service that are in bold and explicit: "for entertainment purposes only"? Which is why its in the title and not the article? EntertainBait?

YouTube is coming up with another infuriating way to force users to pay for Premium subscription or watch ads.

Or to let us know its time to quit. I have narrowed down my youtube use a lot. If it is ad only I won't bother at all.

Won't miss much frankly.

Shame they didn't get access to the analytics. It would be very interesting to see the extent these data collected are used. For instance, training voice AI on customer data. Or voice printing to make a location map of users and selling that data. Or customizing ads that show up on their devices based on what's in the home, etc etc

You want the user to put their age somewhere? Have a simple script that asks for a number and echos it into a file called "age". Done. And they can only run the script if they want to.

Well is that true? I searched duckduckgo and kagi something and neocities and both gave results. Bing did not. Edit: Seems like I got lucky with search terms. Often it returns nothing the more terms I try. The AI tool in ddg always returns sites so thats weird. Well whateever, I switched to Kagi anyways.

I use Linux 100 percent full time. I have to remote into windows, Azure, deal with Office 365 and Windows servers for work. I always do it from Linux because I need something to just work and is reliable. I miss NOTHING about windows. Using it ALWAYS reminds me of how bad and anti productive it is. Every day I curse something about it. I left when Windows XP came out, the enshitification was clear. I am writing this now because once again, windows is doing stupid things that are pissing me off. If windows went away tomorrow I would miss absolutely nothing, and in fact would be a cause for celebration. Although I would probably have to work harder, because the only good thing about windows is if you are getting paid to deal with it, everyone knows it is slow and wastes tons of time.

Dumbest comment today. Want to blame someone? Blame a farmer. We were doing fine until we invented agriculture. But just like the tech worker, farmers today are not to blame for the problems introduced in the past.

So you don't understand why agriculture is the root of all our problems? What exactly is "honest work"? Commenting bullshit on Lemmy like you? Using, I don't know, technology that someone made, so you support that kind of work? I missed a good old troll in the wild. Thanks.

YouTube is such a great source for adding skills and knowledge

Slowly though. Watching is wasting a lot of time, and nearly everyone on there stretches it out in the name of "content" and sponsers.

There are a few that don't, but realistically, that knowledge is elsewhere. It's a shame people don't self host videos as much any more. I just embed them in my web page if I absolutely need to.

Or simply make the files available, which if you look around, a lot of them are out there, so download and watch at your pace, and delete when done.

irony machine neocities

My first duckduckgo result was a scam result site for that domain to check if it was safe, lol.

Second result was the creators website page that linked back to neocities.

The duckduck AI result at the top however was a direct link to the neocities page. Interesting.

Kagi's results were first result was the link.

I concede though, it is hit and miss with Duckduckgo, even doing site:neocities.org

Why people keep using Linked In is beyond me. It never has been anything more than a data mining operation with people gladly giving them all their real details. Remember when Linked IN became the man in the middle of your emails? It would read them and send email to your contacts list. Microsoft has said after they purchased them that they were only in it for the data. This is no secret. I will not hire people who put linked in on their resumes, as I have to assume they are just stupid.

People seem suprised when they find out that they capture where their mouse moves, where their finger swipes, the duration, the speed. Everything is a metric.

Yes 98 was terrible. 2000 wasn't so bad. But XP started the data harvesting, the lying to users, the forced applications, and so much more. On top of even worse security than 2000 (also nt) had. I could go on for days how bad it was.

Yeah, I see that. I must have just been lucky with my choice of search terms. I concede, its worse. The AI function shows them though, which is due to it crawling the tags? I don't know. I havent used google in a long time, I switched to Kagi and it works.

More than I would have thought, but, 1.5 million html documents on a single site - does anyone go there looking for anything? I always just made my own sites, or hosted my own, a static site is easy enough. I wouldn't want to be lumped in with a free site. Warned a lot of people that putting your stuff on geocities was going to be a bad idea, and they almost disappeared altogether. But you mentioning Github really is enlightening, because that is the other super easy way to make free sites as long as you have the domain name. So if you had a free geocities site, but owned a domain the redirected to your specific page would it crawl it? In any case a search engine IS USELESS if they arbitrarily cut out any domain. No matter what they host.

I agree that happens, but it has nothing to do with what op said. They didn't want a solution, they wanted a link to where the problem was being discussed so they could work out a solution. People seem to really confure the difference between asking an llm how to patch a boat vs where did people discuss ways to patch a boat.

With Linus? You couldn't pay me to watch that.

Edit: I did grab a subscription to Nebula for a year for €25 because I like someone on there. Seemed reasonable for a whole year of everything they have, and I do like watching Legal Eagle these days.

My main focus (apart from zero security and horrible multi user) was all the anti consumer additions they put into it. XP was so bad, that I left it for linux shortly after it came out.

So what do you do with them? You have to log in at least once as I recall. Or can you exploit them right away? I think I used ADB to degoogle some of the crap, but I also wonder if there are images to simply replace everything. Do people have scripts to fix them? I have one of just sits on the shelf now, I was thinking about trying to fix it again, but it would be nice to have a plan. For those with Region lock, it goes away if you set it in the country it belongs in first then change it after. But it would be nice to kill that lock without having to go through that step.

Kde made double click default, it used to be single click. Put it back to single click. So much better. Adjust focus stealing to your liking. Adjust the color and width of the shadow to make active windows obvious in a dark theme. Wobbly windows: but set higher than default.
