Yeah, a lot of the soldiers in both WWI and WWII were draftees. When a truck half full of soldiers parks outside a mans house and starts pointing guns at his family and shouting at him, most men wind up getting into the truck.

The military went through this in Vietnam. It turns out, slightly too many blacks were dying in combat, so they had even things out.
TL;DR there are White death quotas during a draft
