  Something I think a lot of therapy in the US gets wrong is this idea that if you can’t self-validate all the time, you’re toxic if you seek external validation. Humans literally evolved as community aminals. If anything, learn to see in yourself what others see in you.

  CW: Transphobia I wonder how many people wake up everyday with the realization that at any given moment, they may be days, months, or years away from losing their rights and freedoms. If you were more mad at Musk than you are at the nonstop onslaught of an ENTIRE group of people, you’re part of the problem and I don’t give a fuck if you don’t like it.   Getting towards 40 is yielding painful lessons. My biggest lesson has been that you have to keep hold of the things that matter the most to you because there’s a good chance that they don’t matter to anyone else at all, and that’s perfectly okay. Sometimes having bidirectional communication with yourself beats bidirectional communication with others. Knowing what moves you is tiring but priceless work.

  “Why do you care?” “You’ve got a chip on your shoulder” “Don’t take it so personal” “Let me play devils advocate” This is the shit that I deal with every day in my career. Men, who are on some perceived god given right to conquest, step on the throats of others, and then get upset that you don’t wipe your chin and walk away. Fuck that. I’d rather walk away from this field before accepting this behavior. If you stay silent when people in the room act this way, you’re complicit.

  “Let go, or be dragged”. People think that strength is holding on, but I believe real strength is letting go. It requires enormous strength to let go, especially when it’s because of unfair circumstances. There is peace in letting go. It’s not as satisfying as putting up a fight, but it affords a peace that fighting can’t give you.

  If you’re a leader of people that chooses the path of growing others through nurturing and empathy, you are a treasure and I want to encourage you to keep that part of yourself, even though it’s hard. It’s a rare gift in a world that values managers that carry a big stick with a company logo.
