I tried gemini:// and it tickled my brain that is searching for a lean, unbloated, text-focused web experience. There is a beauty in websites consisting of just hierarchical text and links. It is just enough complexity to do most of the text-based web shit we do. But why not do the same thing with html? What is the purpose of a stricter protocol? Is the friction a design choice to exclude non-technical people? I understand the protocol technically but not socially. #gemini #gopher #smallweb

As a proof of concept here is a #Safari extension that renders .md files directly in viewport. (example.com/somefile.md). If we had browser parity in displaying #Markdown files, we would actually have a nicer text-based way of publishing stuff. Just as we don't have a standardized way of displaying rss/atom feeds across browsers, we let this low hanging fruit hang. Process: The newest Safari lets you "describe" an extension and then it vibe-codes it. This is how I...

@Blender you have 24 hours to revoke your decision. If you don't comply, I will curl up in the foetal position on the floor and cry in disappointment. You have been warned.

@rasterweb I feel this so much! Ten years ago I naively believed that good design will get more nass-accessible. Instead many things got even worse.

A relatively affordable Fuji X-size and haptics full frame body with a compact flat prime lens. Why is this not a thing? One should not need to sell a kidney for a Sony/Leica. #photography #streetphotography

How to open internal Nextcloud web links in the Nextcloud iOS app and not in the browser. 1. Add this shortcut to your share sheet 2. To open something like "https://your.nextcloud.com/f/fileId" in the app, just longpress the URL, share, chose the shortcut. 3. Your internal link opens within the Nextcloud app, not in a browser. This version assumes you have only one nextcloud username logged in in the app. The username is hard-coded. #Nextcloud #iOS #iPadOS

Static site generator exploration continues. Today I tried #BSSG and #Hugo for the first time. It's interesting how I have no problem with my massive homegrown complexities yet feel like a common ancestor basic mammal when confronted with other people's complexity. I got frustrated. Then I installed #11ty and immediately liked that it was less out-of-the box. So I can define my own structure. Which I then understand in return. Next I'll watch tuts for 11ty and see...
