Just finished yet another bone marrow biopsy. The fourth at this hospital. I don't recommend it, if you can avoid it. My doctor offered to show me the sample taken. It's a bit underwhelming. #FuckCancer

Starbuck reprises her role as quilting helper cat. Tonight she is guardian of the scrap pile. Be confident of your donations. Even the most colourful and elegant items stay in the scrap pile while the Guardian abides. #CatsOfMastodon

The monitor in the hospital waiting room cycles through notices of services, of course. I read the ad for an event called Queermunity as Queermutiny. Clearly I didn't take in the other one about mindfulness.

Whenever I see an ad from a Satirical New outfit for writing classes I get an itch. This is fake from me. #ElbowsUp Elon Musk calls on Fort William to separate from Thunder Bay and Hespeler to leave Cambridge, ON.

The neighbours have their Halloween decorations up including the giant skeleton. They're also having a birthday party so now they have decorations for that too. I'm getting a mixed message here, though. Happy birthday and memento mori.

A friend hosted some games this morning. The other table played Andromeda's Edge while ours played Brass Birmingham. It was a learning game for me. For a lot of the game I was leading because I was following people's suggestions. I came 2nd and the 4 scores were tight. BB is a very complex game but I can see why it is popular. I need to play it a few more times soon. But FSM, who (else) starts #boardgames at 8:00 AM on a Saturday?

@PlaidInvader@mstdn.ca brought over his copy of the boardgame Hot Streak. It looks like it's going to be very silly. Such a great presentation. #boardgames

Won our first full game of LotR FotF but played it wrong. Didn't turn over enough cards during the Shadow part of the turn until near the end. Played with Rick, Shawn and @StuartWood@mastodon.social

#boardgames #wdypm Played my first game of Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship yesterday. @PlaidInvader@mstdn.ca and I got through set-up and maybe 5 rounds. Next time will be faster, now that we know the flow, the map and the components.. We lost a hope point in the first turn. We forgot to do the bad-guy turn (each round) until after the 2nd round. It grew on me pretty quickly. We can update the Pandemic section of our CVs.

Rodney Smith is a national treasure. He and his team are a wonderful resource for board game rules. I was looking for instructions on LotR:FotF even though I've played a lot of Pandemic style games, some very recently. When I saw that Watch It Played had a video for it I choose that first. #boardgames I've added a link to the video. It starts a few phrases in at my favourite part. He's cheerfully telling you how the characters are doomed and the threat is real but, https://www.you...

After a short bike ride I have a loaned copy of the game Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship. If you haven't heard it uses Pandemic mechanics. I see @EOGamers@tabletop.vip has a set of notes about it so I'll try that. My friend was kind enough to loan it to me for a while so other friends can learn to play. #boardgames I started to say that I would return the game in once piece. The Contents panel on the box has 22 lines. 3 of those lines mention 48 or 50 pieces.

Learning to play a game called Fame and Fable. We like the art and the play. Apparently it caused a fuss during crowd funding. This is my first time out to a #boardgames club over in the next town. It's called The Order of the Bear.

Played Galactic Cruise for the first time. So complicated. Came in last place but not by much. Good patient teachers. Also good hosts. New friends with whom I can play more games more often. Played outside under large umbrellas. Great day for it. #BoardGames

"Bone marrow donors can expect to experience fatigue after donating. Some donors have described soreness and bruising where the needle was inserted, like the soreness that comes from a hard workout or a fall on ice. Donors may also experience mild discomfort from the breathing tube used during the procedure." "A fall on ice" feels like a little bit of Canadian context. #FuckCancer

Played 2 games of Moon Colony Bloodbath yesterday with some friends. It was fun despite the fact that I was the one who lost all my colonists first and ended the games. The player with the most surviving colonists at the end wins. It's an engine builder with cards and tokens. You spend a lot of time getting and returning tokens. I gather some don't like the losing-everything-you-just-made aspect but the hint is in the title. I feel like if you know it's coming it'...
