Tip for the Google Fi Android users in the US. I've moved to using dual sim with US Mobile + Google Fi. On Android 14 it's even better with automatic data switching. US Mobile is a Verizon MVNO w/ the same priority as vzw customers, it gets really cheap for unlimited data with groups, and there's a subreddit for folks organizing groups. I end up paying ~$40 per month total for both, cheaper than Fi alone with flexible usage and get 2 carriers of coverage. Referral: h...

@reina the major driver for me to upgrade to 14 (and beta) was dual active esims with dynamic failover. Appreciated the additional battery savings too. No strong UI motivations though.

Just finished AMC's Pantheon. Not really sure how this slipped under my radar. It's a really interesting adult animated series about digital human consciousness. https://youtu.be/wTgYeETwgKQ?si=ivRiTVzhxJThxzT_

I finished Scavengers Reign on Max. It has a beautiful animation style, it's a great take on a truly alien world, and the story is enjoyable. Apparently, a lot of the staff also worked on Pantheon, which I recently watched and enjoyed too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOsZVmVPn4E

Due to the large performance benefits, we early upgraded all of Uber's mobile engineers to the M1 Max (64gb) a few years ago which gave 2x the build perf vs previous gen intel. Some of those folks are coming up for refreshers, so we did a new analysis vs the M3 Max (64gb) and we're seeing about 35% reduction in build times vs the previous cohort. Screenshots from our benchmark harness which tests clean builds and several different build graph invalidations to mimic common dev f...

I like new & novel UX gestures in otherwise standard mobile apps without violating user expectations. The updated Mastodon Android app's home button behavior to toggle between the top of the feed and the previous location with a nice haptic feel is great.
