I’m generally a fan of Raspberry Pi, but what always pains me is that it’s really difficult to design a nice case for it because of its port layout. USB-C and HDMI are on one side, while USB-A and Ethernet are on another, so something is bound to jut out inconveniently. I still think I did okay with this two-tone square case to house the Spirit. It’s red because I have a bunch of that filament, but it’s eventually going to be hidden away inside the entertainment centre anyway.

No matter what time of day I open Ivory (my preferred Mastodon client), there are always new and interesting things to read and see, oftentimes in abundance. It didn't happen overnight, but now it's easily my favourite place on the Internet. I couldn't imagine going back to X. Even if it was possible to ignore what that service and its owner stand for, I can't think of anything of interest to me that I could get on X but couldn't on Mastodon.

SolidCraft is the latest vibe-coded “big-tech replacement” app – this one squarely aimed at Autodesk’s Fusion – that’s making the rounds now. I haven’t yet properly taken it for a spin, but the first impressions are kind of startling. I’m used to Fusion always feeling kind of sluggish even on a fast computer, so cue my surprise when SolidCraft launches within a few seconds and feels extremely snappy in just general navigation of the UI and doing basic tasks like sketching.

I have always been idly curious about #inktober, but I always wake up to it too late in the game. This time I also did that, but I decided that I’ll just jump in and post two drawings a day until I’m caught up. It’s been such a long time since I’ve actually drawn things artistically, it feels refreshing. Ink on paper, with @studioneat@mastodon.social Mark One. #inktober2026

RE: https://mastodon.social/@keyboards/117134800256945074 There is something cool about beige-era computers coming in extravagant shapes that I can’t quite put my finger on. How was beige the one thing everyone clinged so hard to?

New phone battery, who dis? 😁 I put my money where my mouth is, and gave the iPhone 13 mini a boost at the Apple Store. Maybe waiting for a new small phone will never pay off again, but at least this one is good for years to come.

We went to China a couple of weeks back for work, and on one of our off days we went to this crazy, five-storey electronics mall in Beijing, full of little booths selling all kinds of stuff. Almost anything you can imagine. One of them had some iPhone 17 Pro-looking Android phones… except they were *tiny*. Think half the size of the iPhone 13 mini. I have no use for one and it probably would’ve had all kinds of shady software on it, but I kind of regret not buying one. It was cute af.

RE: https://mastodon.online/@9to5Mac/117156531879539227 I did not see "the UI gets bigger with each redesign" on the list.

RE: https://mastodon.online/@grumpy_website/117179645115443891 I guess this just goes into the pile of reasons why I haven’t upgraded to iOS 26 and even 27 I’m questioning. What an incredibly sloppy, user-hostile design.

🎂 34 revolutions around the sun completed! 🎂 I don’t really care about celebrating my birthday, but I do care about cake so I play along.

Even though the styling of iOS 27 is much improved in places over iOS 26, using it alongside an iOS 18 phone I’m still not convinced that the new design actually solves any problems at all. I regularly get the feeling of my screen looking so messy, because there is just no visual structure when UI looks like it is randomly floating in a sea of content/other UI. Apple can refine the styling all they want, but I don’t think *this* is fixable. Proper toolbars and tab bars need to come back.

Copenhagen metro has added new stations, it seems. 172.22.2.70 sounds like an interesting place.

I look at old software and I see: diverse, creative, crafted, often joyful designs, that were also incredibly functional. It felt like there truly was a permission to explore, to play. I look at current software and I overwhelmingly see: homogenous, bland, rushed, often sad designs. Even the functionality does not nearly always redeem them, as it's being abstracted and hidden away in the name of minimalism. What the systems and tools allow is narrowing down all the time. Just take me back.

Setting up a new work phone (it’s an iPhone Air), and iOS 26 just keeps on giving. How do I know nobody at Apple has tested the “top” tab bar in Safari with Reduce Transparency turned on? Because it looks like this…

A good thing about living in a country that generally doesn’t do that well in ice hockey is that seemingly no one talks about it.

Now that I’ve had the iPhone Air in my hands for a couple of days, hardware-wise it’s a very cool device. The size/thinness/weight ratio feels surreal. I chose it as a work phone because while none of Apple’s current devices are a good fit for me, might as well get something that’s a bit special. The 13 mini will remain my personal, primary device and I prefer it by a large margin. It’s kind of funny how the mini almost fits in the flat area underneath the “iconic plateau” of the Air.

I’ve been using Ecosia as the search engine on all my devices for a bit. It’s one of the few alternative search engines Apple list in Safari, and it’s surprisingly decent. I will be continuing this experiment.
