You know, honestly, more than monetary donations, if somebody worked at a company that had access to a lot of 18 terabyte and larger hard drives and could talk to us, that's where we are really suffering. The internet archive has no special priority in buying hard drives and those things are insane.

It was brought to my attention that Real Hack History, a youtube channel, has been uploading documents, audio and video related to hacking history to the Internet Archive and they deserve a little collection. I'm making them for them now but you can look at their excellent uploads immediately. Really good stuff. Really well sourced. https://archive.org/details/@realhackhistory

For the effective transfer of 1980s to 1990s stored computer information, you just can't beat CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. I'm doing a 200-disc read and that's just gigabytes slipping into the archives with almost zero effort.

In before close of the day. Thanks to everyone, who threw money at me a $4,100 hit for doing an overenthusiastic bid on some Friar's Club recordings got whittled down to about $563, which is more than doable for me. That's including everything. I'll livestream and share the results.

The 10,000 spam items I'm removing are wating in line for the Archive system to move the 400,000 manuals that have been uploaded into their rightful place.

I've been really cleaning up the office and as of that I am doing a Big Spring mail out to permanent storage and I will also be having a spring cleaning auction next week. Just lots of stuff of mine that probably could use a better home. Stay tuned

Shaking the tree tonight (Tuesday) as I got a chance to get a really nice reel to reel tape player which I can use to transfer the hundreds of reel tapes I have waiting. I am at about $550 and the item is at $1049. If anyone wants to throw at this, it's @textfiles on venmo and jason@textfiles.com on paypal.

Oh, you got your emulator running with a few games to play? That's cute. Andrew Warkentin has made a VM that has over 1,700 operating systems on it that you select from a launcher. One Thousand Seven Hundred Plus. Aww, your emulator takes a couple gigs. His takes 174 of them. https://www.virtualosmuseum.org

I had it pointed out to me that my Patreon didn't have a way to sign up under $25/episode, which was quite a flex, even if unintended. I have now added tiers below that for people to join if they like. https://patreon.com/textfiles

Here's a good example of straight stupid: The "Teraleak", which claims it's a massive leak of Apple testflight data. https://twitter.com/teraleak ... it's an Archive Team project from 9 years ago. They announced they were shutting down and Archive Team downloaded everything before it disappeared. Now places are reporting it as an Apple Leak or something. It's a fucking crawl. A CRAWL, people. How far we have fallen.

New article out! Super in-depth, very furious manifesto. I get batted around. Join in the fun! Looks like it was a lot of work. https://newdesigncongress.org/en/pub/who-will-remember-us-when-the-servers-go-dark/

So, I went a little ham on this one, and I entered an auction, got into a bidding war, and now I'm on the hook for about $3,520. https://www.juliensauctions.com/en/items/2192429/friars-club-friars-club-media-archive I'm passing the hat around if people want to help throw a few bucks at me for archivebossing a bit too close to the sun. Everything in this gets digitized. paypal:jason@textifles.com venmo:@textfiles

For the first time in probably half a year, the emulated items "in queue" is now empty - everything's verified as functioning and living off in either final or holding collections for many different machines and so on. Time for you all to upload more!

I always try to appreciate the good things in life, and the 85,000 CD-ROMs that people have uploaded to Internet Archive are one of those good things. https://archive.org/details/cd-roms?and%5B%5D=mediatype%3A%22collection%22 It's from this collection we get DISCMASTER. https://discmaster.textfiles.com

Hey, coming in a bit late to the party, but if you get over to the ROMchip Journal stream at https://www.twitch.tv/romchipJournal they are a few thousand short of the "keep the lights on" level ($7k) and if they hit $10k, the editor of this journal gets hit in the face with a pie.

I'm being poked to perhaps post a bit more on Mastodon (and this is my primary non-work Mastodon). So I will take that advice to heart and get cracking.

Spammers run rampant against the archive, trying their best to post advertisements and tricky links outward to sketchy sites. They've been doing it for years, and there's mitigations I and others work to keep it contained and miminal. Recently, someone is trying to break out of containment and is posting literally thousands of items a day.

Monday, and it's time to go through the new uploads of emulations with my quality-control scripts to make sure people uploaded working emulations. If you didn't know the Internet Archive emulates in the browser, now you do. 270,000 emulated titles and counting. https://archive.org/search?query=emulator%3A*&sort=-downloads

Entirely normal flash animations being automatically played by a script and then another script decides it works and puts it into a collection automatically so people know something, somewhere, checked them out.
