This scene gets me EVERY time. Walter has just woken up in a dystopian world where feelings are almost criminal; everything is hyper-rationalist and grey. Music is banned. He manages to sleep, wakes up, and this. I fucking WEPT like a child the first time I watched it and still do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DybrM4CSNy4

The worst thing about a nut shot is that in the instant of it, nothing happens. You have a brief window where you know what's coming, you know how bad it's going to be, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. Then someone spends the next five minutes inflating a balloon in your abdomen.

I managed to delete the secret key material for my GPG key. Well, piss. Let me tell you about revocation certificates. This doesn't contain your secret keys, but can be used to revoke the key. I had one, and thus it was easy to revoke the key and generate a new one. Generate one. Trust me. PS: anyone going off about backups will be stabbed in the eyes. Because I don't have cause to use my key much (I sign my commits with a SSH key) the data loss happened over a year ago. All my back...

aaaah, I love keyoxide so much. Since keybase was just left to rot, EXTREMELY disappointingly, this is a truly fantastic replacement which is entirely decentralised. wish it supported more proofs, but it's got the important stuff. you can decentralise without a blockchain! unthinkable! scandal! https://keyoxide.org/8EA4E68124FEA8B559F482A2943E9700DECFC535

Honestly one of the most impactful suggestions I can make to other DevOps types is this. Terraform is shit. A declarative syntax is both unnecessarily restrictive and overly verbose. You can get logic in there, but it's a hack. Forget about it. Try Pulumi. The providers are mostly generated from Terraform, so there's feature parity. But what changes is that you use a real language with real logic. Go, TypeScript, Python. There may be more. It's the absolute dog's bollocks.

Holy shit. The KARR and SWDS "security" units - designed to help you prevent car theft - are vulnerable for absolute clowntown reasons. They bridge BLE to CAN. That means every function of your car is under their control. They protect that BLE interface with a key......which doesn't change between units......which is stored in plaintext in the mobile app.

Made an autonomous agent harness? Cool cool. No, I understand, that's everyone's dream right now. You rock on. I won't be fucking touching it until we solve prompt injection. Think about the problem, at its root, being that we interact with agents through chat. Wouldn't it be safer if we could find a way to structure that data, more so than just passing a structured object in chat? I don't have the skills for this. Too Deep #AI. But it's where you could make a HUGE imp...

PROTIP: if you have a lot of small files you want to put in cloud storage on a Mac, use iCloud. It handles it like a champ. What I WANT to use is Dropbox, so it's not tied to an ecosystem, but Dropbox absolutely chokes with lots of small files. Really badly. Which is why I'm having an rclone party.

Today in things I was wrong about and you should understand: #AI does use water in a wasteful way. What should happen: closed loop cooling. Take water, run it through heat exchangers, evaporate it, condense it, return it to the pool, run it through heat exchangers, evaporate it, repeat forever. There will be losses, but not the majority. What actually happens: no condensation step. Water comes in and is evaporated to the atmosphere. That's it. There are better options. We're not using...

Does anyone else have this when grocery shopping? An inability to buy ONE of anything? It always feels more comfortable to buy two, and it feels actively worrisome - for some reason - to buy one. Brains, man. Wonk.

Shipped a thing! https://triage.syn.horse My memory is terrible. Pathologically bad (https://syn.as/sdam). So I capture everything into Linear, in Triage by default. This tool makes it easy to go through the triage queue on a phone. It's all client-side - you need an API key, but it never leaves your browser.

Turns out that no matter how defensively you program, your code doesn't get executed if it doesn't get imported. Anyway, that was the last three hours of my life. facepalm.gif

The irony is strong that even through all the keyboards I own, the one I keep coming back to is the novelty Commodore 64 one because it just has the most beautiful key surfaces and that delicious click. I can type faster with less conscious thought with the feel and the sound.

Thinking about that doctor at the walk-in clinic who, before any of the drama, way back, not only realised "I think this is MS", but she had the stones to actually come up to me, a random patient, and deliver news that she knew would be life-changing in the worst possible way.

I find it kind of interesting that the majority of people railing against datacentres (and who aren't just making things up) are American. Interesting, isn't it? Every other country manages to host datacentres without impact on drinking water, residential noise, you name it. Wonder why that is. (I know why that is)

So I didn't rate that at all. It was a ghost story. Which is fine, but this is Star Trek, and I want you to find out the source of the 'ghosts'. Not just handwave them away with a spoopy final image of the ghost. Also, I can't be alone smelling a setup for Division 12.

I used the Claude Agent SDK when building claude-commit to check it out, and it's very cool indeed. It uses your Claude subscription instead of API pricing, and doesn't shell out to Claude Code. This lets us do things like require JSON structured output, without just prompting for it and hoping for the best. Try it out in dry run mode a few times, and if you're happy with the commit messages, let it save you some time :) https://github.com/synmux/claude-commit
