@mikesax @gruber We’ll see! I do have lots of questions about accessibility, naturally.

As I ready to read @gruber’s iPhone 18 Pro review, it feels like a good time to say Apple sent me a review unit for both it and the Apple Watch. I have the burgundy Pro Max. It is hilariously large after a year of daily iPhone Air usage.

I wrote some more about text on tvOS in light of tvOS 27’s new larger text options. The “current” Apple TV box may be old, but this new feature absolutely makes the experience better. https://www.curbcuts.co/blog/2026-9-21-qzwx45exytnkm0d8v1lx4w6n7s3h2y

There's a helluva lot of ableism in many of the takes on Muse. Skepticism towards Meta is one thing, but it's another thing entirely to sneer at a robot doing tasks people should ostensibly do for themselves.

I’ll chime in on this @brentsimmons post by saying another solid season to prefer Apple’s stock UI elements, on macOS or elsewhere, is accessibility. Developers get VoiceOver labels “for free” when using stock interface controls, for example. They also tend to play nicer with things like Dynamic Type too. https://inessential.com/2026/09/22/that-about-wraps-it-up-for.html

Okay, I wrote a little bit about using the Mac’s stock UI controls for accessibility’s sake. Not a trivial reason! cc: @brentsimmons @gruber https://www.curbcuts.co/blog/2026-9-25-21pxith5vtjz1pdxrqabygshteox7n

I need someone to explain why Apple Music on macOS refuses to honor my OG HomePod as the default AirPlay speaker like the Podcasts app faithfully does.

I'm not big on Prime Days deals, but I’ve had my eye on this Anker Thunderbolt dock to tidy up my desk for a while, and I just think it looks nice. $310 on Amazon today, so I snagged it. https://www.anker.com/products/a83b5-anker-prime-thunderbolt5-docking-station-14-in-1-140w-8k?variant=44920138268822&collections_hubs-and-docks-ads&Sort_by=Recommended&_gl=1*1imcjht*_up*MQ..*_gs*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjwn67VBhBnEiwAXUIN1bEw-F_4KPBnVVq70L_adP-TshGH_4SMvWua_QskS...

I get asked every time Apple announces an event, so may as well get ahead of them: No, I wasn't invited to the company's "Welcome home" thing on the 13th. Cross-country travel is brutal on me for many reasons, so it's okay. Accessibility is evergreen, and I'll cover from here.

I wrote briefly about the new magnetic USB-C connector on Microsoft's new Surface Laptop Ultra. Fellow tech journos: *this* is why covering accessibility with more zeal matters! https://www.curbcuts.co/blog/2026-10-8-f74p6kwfa03bm147cc86zh647741tb

A game I like to play with myself is scan the show notes for the tech podcasts I follow and see if anything I’ve written at Curb Cuts gets a shoutout. Never happens. I’m not one of the cool kids I guess.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Cdespinosa/117460391201475819 I was 8 when the earthquake happened. I was trying to nod off in my dad’s car trying to get from my grandma’s house in Fremont to our apartment less than a mile away. I was awakened by my dad’s swerving when the earthquake hit.

iPhone Duo curiosity aside, I like this @jsnell piece on the iPad mini. I’m very excited for it to get OLED, and believe the iPad mini is the most iPad-y of them all given how Steve Jobs pitched the original in that chair. https://sixcolors.com/post/2026/10/is-the-beloved-ipad-mini-the-best-ipad/

Technological progress is one thing, but I will die on the hill that the reason most nerds/reviewers bitch about the lack of ProMotion on the new iPad mini is because THEY HAVE THE VISION TO PERCEIVE IT.

Please refrain from calling your AI “retarded” when you feel it’s bad. It’s not okay. I can’t believe I have to say this in 2026.

I wrote my own piece on the Cook-to-Ternus transition, analyzing the news through an accessibility lens (duh). Here’s an idea for Ternus: Give Apple a chief accessibility officer! If Apple can have a chief hardware officer, and a whole country can have one, no reason Apple couldn’t. https://www.curbcuts.co/blog/2026-4-21-3h7blasrav9ctlfzfhr3rc414vidpo

I have no idea who even cares or listens to me, but re: the Touch Bar withering on the proverbial vine, my understanding through the years has been a lot of software people inside Apple fell out of love with it. (I still maintain Touch Bar Zoom is/was a masterpiece.)

I lived in San Francisco proper for 12 years. This story is decidedly not news to residents. https://9to5mac.com/2026/04/28/apple-paid-1-2m-to-privately-hire-police-to-protect-its-san-francisco-stores-wired/

RE: https://mastodon.social/@daringfireball/116518803371459644 It’s almost impossible to overstate how seminal Markdown has been to my journalistic career. It really is a de-facto accessibility feature for me. One of my earliest bylines was a piece I did for TidBITS. https://tidbits.com/2013/06/18/with-markdown-even-the-blind-can-write/

I don't know about anyone else, but I’ve always used Dropbox for archival purposes, not a sync engine. I use iCloud Drive for the majority of the files I need across devices.

2026 has been unkind to me thus far, and my mental health is in a precarious place, but today has cause for small celebration: It’s my 13th anniversary as a tech journalist. I know my work doesn’t make headlines or even conversation, but I’m proud of what I built for myself, literally from nothing back in 2013. Thanks to all who’ve supported me over the years.
