We toured #Washington DC, where the tourists only barely outnumber the military police force. Ugh, what a waste. Anyhow, we went to the John F. Memorial tarp and saw the gilded and not-yet-gilded statues. #travel #America250

More #Washington : the reflecting pond disaster, half-emptied, and an indication of the level of "you're barred from here" we encountered -- closed and gat d and screened and locked up. Protecting American institutions from, well, Americans. And then there's the white house crane. Such an addition to the skyline. Ugh. #travel #America250

Those creepy banners: ugh. "Justice" (as if!), the more informal protest poster (oh golly are we burrrrrning cash on the military occupation), creepy banners over the labor department, and finally the capital which has no signage about January 6th. #travel #America250 #Washington #DC

Went to the National Gallery; enjoyed the fifteenth-c Death of St Claire, especially the two praying nuns with their obsequial-processionals. But don't get too comfortable with the accuracy of detail -- elsewhere in the image we see Margaret holding her cutiepie of a dragon... #art #ReligiousArt #15thc #medieval #NationalGallery

My ride tonight was free; our train was stopped for 90 minutes due to a storm front. Can't argue with the weather. (Well, shouldn't, at any rate)

Query: What do you recommend for PDF reading that allows highlighting and annotation -- for a PC? Yes, I'm an old fogey and have relied on pen-and-ink until now. And yes, it's probably time to move digital. But no, the Adobe world is NOT an answer. And cloud-services are a no-go; I'm on rural internet Suggestions? #AcademicChatter #AmWriting #Research #Tools #PDFAnnotation

my cat is tired of my spending more time on grading than grooming her, so she deleted the file I was assessing. Good thing I had a backup, bwahaha

Hospice care is a blessing. (My brother in law's mom has entered care for late-stage cancer.) Gisela's room has a view of the lake, I'm told. And pain management is a gift for sure. Klaus is able to be there with her for a time, but given the state of international travel, neither grandkid can go. Hard to say goodbye over the telephone. So these are the things that happen in life: some good, some bad, all part of who we are. Today I'm a little bit sad. That to...

Musicologists love antiphons. But a 16th-century prayerbook suggests the real center of gravity in the Divine Office was the psalms. The evidence? Counting drop caps. https://silencesandsounds.blogspot.com #codicology #manuscripts #DivineOffice #chant #musicology #nuntastic #blog #research
