I'm too tired to shop for groceries. Oh cool, I can order online for pickup for free and they do all the work and just put it in your trunk for you. I just gotta pick out what I want online. ... I'm too tired to pick out groceries I want online.

Whenever I see a really huge vehicle like a mining dump truck or locomotive or whatever I always imagine the driver's area to be spacious like a small studio apartment, maybe with a couch, coffee table. I'm always disappointed to discover they somehow managed to make the interior cramped anyway.

One of the hardest parts of a coding project where I’m not even sure what the highest level steps are gonna be is to stop trying to beautifully architect so many unknowns prematurely. I have to accept making an extremely ugly, disorganized, just-barely-good-enough first draft to even understand the problem, then go back and rewrite and reorganize. And then the design seems so obvious and I wonder why I didn’t just do that from the start. But I literally couldn’t then.

We need another KPop Demon Hunters-like phenomenon. I was rewatching some reactions to the movie and songs and I just never tire of seeing folks stunned by artistic and technical excellence. It’s a rare bit of positivity and affirmation of humanity to see creatives at the peak of what people can do and folks being moved by that.

As someone who is more than likely on the autism spectrum, I have the usual frustrations with the techno oligarchs, but also struggle with "in-group cringe." Some of these dudes are either on the spectrum or show similar thinking, and the way they think about humans, about social problems, it's familiar to me, traps I fell into when younger and eventually learned to reject, and it's uncomfortable seeing these influential people inflict my past mistakes on everyo...

Whoever wrote this Wikiversity article about Solomon-Reed error correction, _specifically_ oriented around QR code reading, _specifically_ geared toward coders, I could kiss you. It exactly bridges the divide I have been struggling with between the math being explained too mathily with tons of Greek letters and abstract concepts, and code where it’s a bunch of unexplained bitshifts and modulos without being legible as math (and usually written for a different purpose). https://en.wikiversity.o...

I’d appreciate if the iOS health app stopped asking me if I’m sure when I enter in my blood pressure because it seems out of range, surely a typo. Yes it’s correct! I’m workin on it! Shut up!

Yesterday I used Claude to implement a whole feature at work out of necessity. It was in UI code I was unfamiliar with in languages I don’t know. I wanna say it did a terrible job, but it didn’t. I spent a couple hours looking over it to understand what I was putting my name on and it was very well done. Handled edge cases and details I wouldn’t have thought of. Struggling with how to feel about it. It was very helpful, and I wish it didn’t exist.

Modern minimalist, flat, lifeless UI design makes me want to create a UI library where all the elements are styled from real life photos of claymation buttons and scrollbars and windows in loud garish colors. Take me back to maximalist aesthetics of the 90s.

You know what I should have done? Gotten hired early in the founding of a prominent startup software company in my 20s that made me fabulously wealthy before the company turned evil so I could retire and tinker on personal projects. Yeah. I forgot to do that. I really should have done that.

I am a very bad data analyst I think. Or bad at SQL. Or both. Probably both. Slog through writing a big query, start it running, wait forever, see weird-ass results. Realize I forgot something. Alter query, try again. Even weirder results. Several rounds of that before I throw it all out and start from scratch. Get even differenter wrong results. Eventually give up and say “I think the data’s fine. Good to ship.” and hope no one asks for specifics.
