  Enjoying a little calm Friday before next week's storm... got a crazy busy week coming up with Next Fest starting on Steam and MNOZ being in it (so much spamming must be done!), two protests to go to, my kids award ceremony at school, 3 doctors appointments and driving people all over the place for 2 days. Not really looking forward to the dashing - normally I'm just in the basement quiet and occasionally I nip to the shop, so I'll take the quiet today and enjoy it!

  Noooo my Wii no longer works. I only had it a couple of months, too. It powers on, but no video. Tried different cables, different displays, leaving it powered off for 30 minutes and trying again, but nothing works. Gutted. I loved that thing. RIP my Wii 🪦

  So gutted about my Wii dying yesterday. I was having loads of fun with the (mostly racing) games on it, too. My only option is to spend a load of cash I shouldn't be spending and get another off Ebay I suppose, just roll the dice and hope the next one is better really. I lack the skills or tools to try to fix it myself unfortunately and I don't want to just give up on those lovely games. Gah!

  The example source code for three of my books is on GitHub and it’s nice that I don’t have to host that, but the idea that these Hugging Face arseholes can just steal it and sell it to other people (albeit put through the word jumble machine) pisses me off. I spent a lot of time writing those books and writing that code, why should they get it all for free? Anthropic already stole my books, now these arseholes are stealing the example source code *sigh* fuck AI.

  I was thinking this morning about how making games has brought so many nice people into my world. I’ve met some amazing people because of games. Most of you lot included! Regardless of how crap I am at selling or business and all that balls: games give me a sense of purpose in my work, a way to express myself artistically, and also a load of really nice interactions with nice people.   Had an old Sinclair ZX Spectrum replica sitting around (a modern Bluetooth replica one, made by Elite) so I decided to frame it! Just used a sticky Velcro on the back so it can easily be removed without damage, if I ever use it again. I put a loading screen background in there, too.   It’s been a fix something, break something kind of a day and I’ve somehow ended up with a broken game at the end of it.   I’m noticing some retro computing folks using genAI to convert code from one old computer to another. I guess they do it to make themselves look clever on their retro computing FB groups or online or whatever, rather than actually learning how to do it. Torching the planet with genAI just to convert a bit of z80 to 6502 or whatever? Tragic. They can get right in the bin.

  Over the last two months on Itch, I've had more than 14 days of the same number of downloads of the same game.. all 4, all My Nuclear Octopus downloads. It's not a free game, but it was in a couple of charity bundles over the last few years so yeah maybe people from the bundles are downloading it.. but it seems pretty strange that there are so many days where it's exactly 4 downloads, don't you think? I don't understand it. It weirds me out. Why 4? Why so...
