RE: https://social.luca.run/@luca/117455226271149354 This is an interesting take but I have to point out that it’s not a new phenomenon. From the dawn of computing we had single use software. Basically all first programs were single use as described in the OP: hardcoded variables, no rights management, too specific. That’s mostly because for a while computers were too resource constrained for reusability. Programs had to cut every piece of configurability to be as small as possible. It was eas...

@denis I’m trying to do something in nanoc. I’m deep in its internals and I’m not sure I read it correctly so I thought I’d ask. I want to add content hash to output file names (e.g. main-1234ef.css). But it seems nanoc has a separate pass to determine the paths before the actual compilation so content is not available at that point. Do I read it correctly? Is it possible to implement content hashes in nanoc?

RE: https://sonomu.club/@threedaymonk/117463112325779578 I no longer feel inspired to contribute to a commons that’s being strip-mined by massive corporations to feed the very machines whose unthinking output pollutes it. When people claim that it’s no longer sustainable to write code by hand, they’re not entirely wrong, but only in the same way that it’s no longer sustainable to sleep in a bed once someone has taken a shit in it. #ruby #RubyOnRails

@jardo@townwizard.net Yeah… How about tax to income ratio as vote multiplier? You’re a billionaire but paid $1m in taxes, you get 0.001 vote. You're a normie paying 40% taxes, you get 0.4 votes. You’re out of job but tax office is still onto you you get infinite votes, but to not break the counting let's cap it at, say, 100.

@jardo@townwizard.net I do and I love it. I think people should use it more. In particular I reach for it in two cases. More expressive condition check. E.e. in MyClass(field: 42). This can be used in both a case, and an if.Complex destructuring. E.g. config => {deeply: {nested: {user:, password:}}} to get user and password in local vars.

@jardo@townwizard.net understandable. Just consider that even buying one track gives that artist more real money than you listening to them all year. Buying one album likely offsets pirating every other track by that artist. I’m not condoning piracy per se but an economic argument is surprisingly strong.

@SteveFoerster@social.vivaldi.net It's a shame we don't get many new forums any more. At least they don't come up in search. The closest to those communities is Discord servers but for me it's not the same. Classic forums are slower and more async, more conducive to thoughtful replies. Discord is real-time and much more ephemeral. Though, I saw people finding friends there as well. @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange

So #bundler added support for cooldowns. https://blog.rubygems.org/2026/06/03/cooldown-let-new-gems-be-vetted.html Aside: This feature is mostly developed by Claude. I haven't reviewed the code. Maybe it's fine. Maybe hsbt did actually read, understood, and guided all the code generated here. But in any case it's kinda depressing that even #Ruby, "a Programmer's Best Friend" language with goals like happiness and fun is outsourced to AI that neither can have fun, nor...

@wwahammy@social.treehouse.systems I don’t think nVidia deserves much blame here. For one nVidia doesn’t hype up ai that much. They do capitalize on it, sure. Also no layoff ever was framed as “we spent too much on chips for ai”, it’s always “ai replaced them”, which it almost certainly didn’t. In this whole thing nVidia is probably the only one who delivers promised product. Their chips actually do multiple huge matrices faster than anyone else. What those multiplications used for is a differen...

@bitboxer@mastodon.social I don’t think deep linking is missing per se. It’s just not the type of data that a map usually has. I thought it might be a good starting point. Like, groups stores by chain name and manually work out linking scheme for a few more popular ones in the country of interest. You probably will have to use some sort of api to translate isbn to a link as in my experience most don’t use isbn in urls. Like, you can search by isbn but you get internal id in the url.

@bitboxer@mastodon.social Awesome! For just linking books LibraryThing is quite OK. Example: https://www.librarything.com/work/14231634/t/The-Fifth-Season But we always can have more options. For bookstores you can use Overpass Turbo to query OpenStreetMap. https://overpass-turbo.eu/ Example query: [out:json][timeout:25]; // fetch area to search in {{geocodeArea:Berlin}}->.searchArea; // gather results node[shop=books](area.searchArea);out; // print results out geom; Switch to Data in...
