rereading infinite jest. I originally read it when I was hospitalized with psychosis and subsequently recovering. That was probably the absolute ideal time to read it, but I'll admit I'm absorbing things in more detail this time. I'll post some good excerpts, but I'm on the train and the OCR app is taking some time to download

my favourite type of ai boosting content is when they're like, "here's how to get ai to produce good code" and they go on to reinvent software engineering practises

So I've used ai and found it useful but today I got a handover of code for a vibe coded app and it was shit. Those who forget WYSIWYG web design are doomed to repeat it

I personally find it very hard to relate to atheists who seem weirdly protective of Jesus. If you're an atheist, you should not believe Jesus was infallible and that all the problematic parts of the Bible are misinterpretations. Equally, it seems wildly irrational to say, "religion causes all the wars" etc. If you don't believe it, why are you speaking like religious people aren't just some other lads with a different ideology, subject to exactly the same human weaknesses...

With Zack Polanski it always bugs me that people focus on the fact he said hypnotism can increase breast size rather than the more important thing that he was a Harley Street quack for a really long time.

looked at one of those reform constituencies where they ousted labour. Combined, reform candidates were 25% of the votes and the turnout was 45%. Here's an idea, try to appeal to the other 88% of the electorate?

Saw someone asking what a woman is and I decided to research. Old English spoke about two types of man: a wīfmon (wife man) or cwen, the counterpart of a wǣpnedmann (weaponed man) or wer. Young men would be called gyrles or sometime cnits or maegdens depending on whether they were weaponkind or wifekind respectively. Being a wifeman indicated that man was no longer a girl and was married. It gave a certain status but men ended up calling all queens wifemen regardless of whether or not they we...

I hate seeing papers reporting on think tanks' recommendations. A think tank is a group blog with notions. That's all People can easily brush off influencers' opinions, as they should, but a think tank doesn't even have to have followers. All they need is headed notepaper, a website and a retired civil servant.
