His preferred option was a mutual energy ceasefire with Russia, which would stop hitting Ukrainian power plants. Two other options he raised were Patriot missiles to protect its own energy grid, or permission to use Starlink inside Russia so that drones can destroy Moscow’s...

This wasn't the first illegal Google project in Finland, they've broken preservation laws at their existing data center site as well. It's an intentional bet that sanctions will be minimal, and environmental assessments come back easier for a site which no longer has any environmental values to protect. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/ng-interactive/2026/oct/22/finland-google-felling-trees-datacentre

RE: https://mastodon.me.uk/@ChrisMayLA6/117494960319068530 The stick is very, very simple. Ban the collection, use and resale of cross-site behavioral tracking for advertising purposes. GDPR has teeth, if we just enforce it. That one change, and Meta, TikTok and Google lose all their traffic leverage. Of course that's precisely why lobbyists want to ensure politicians think it is impossible to enforce.

RE: https://masto.ai/@ragnarbjartur/117455714935927611 Looks like this month is on track to be the new record for russian casualties for the entire war. Meanwhile practically no territorial progress - and these casualties bear practically no relation to the air strike civilian terror campaign. No wonder trump is panicking on behalf of putin.

Despite Rubio's claims to the contrary, Ukraine has been using Starshield, the military version of Starlink, since Elon broke the commercial version with his one-sided restrictions in 2024. This use has been sponsored by Poland and Germany, two NATO countries. America is led by traitors, not allies. https://www.computerweekly.com/news/366652130/Europe-is-watching-Starshields-actions-in-Ukraine

No, New York Times. It is not Zelenskyi's "defiant decision to continue attacking Russian refineries" but putin's utter indifference and continued terror campaign against the Ukrainian civilians which underscore trump's inability to end this war. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/15/us/politics/trump-russia-ukraine.html?unlocked_article_code=1.JFE.FPvn.uYZeZ6UCxTjV&smid=url-share

Ie, European countries are prioritizing private profits over security of the continent and Ukrainian defense.

Oracle, CoreWeave, Blue Owl, Core Scientific, Nebius.. The lowest tranche of bad debt is going down, hard. But it's not looking all that hot for Softbank, Meta or Microsoft, either. Alphabet and Amazon are still holding, kinda. But check out how Trump Media Group is doing if you want a cheer!

I’m no mathematician, but I’ve followed the last couple of weeks of breathless commentary from a distance, because it bears some resemblance to a field I do know: software. Maths has its own software: the Lean theorem prover and related tools. Squint at it, and it is kind of shaped like software unit testing: no theorem is known unless it is testably proven. So, AI came, and wrote a million-line Lean proof for something which has remained unproven by human thinking. Only, the proof was an expl...

The only concession Europe or Ukraine should agree to is that in exchange for retreating, the kremlin regime can keep their position inside russia until the people reject them. And even that is a huge concession. The regime should actually be locked up for rest of their miserable lives. https://www.politico.eu/article/pope-leo-urges-concessions-to-end-war-in-ukraine/ #Ukraine #russia #Pope

It pisses me off that “open weights” are conflated with open source. There’s nothing open about a multi-gigabyte binary the building blocks of which are kept secret. Downloadable but opaque binaries are not open source - and Microsoft knows this full well. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/corporate-responsibility/topics/open-weight/

It seems to me that France did not ban social media from teens, rather than give commercial social media the opportunity to mandate collection of digital identity for every French person. Meta will be thrilled to get at this data - likely X, TikTok, Snap and Google, too. https://www.france24.com/en/french-parliament-backs-social-media-ban-for-under-15s-in-eu-first

Two years for Zalushnyi, who was blamed for the failed 2023 counteroffensive and clashed with Zelenskyi on military recruitment and use of media. Two and a half for Syrskyi, who would have continued if not for Zelenskyi’s ill-judged dismissal of Fedorov leading to public escalation. Two years for Drapatyi? If he’s successful, he will become too popular. If he’s not, the war will grind on. #Ukraine #foreignperspective
