Another picture taken at Avila Beach in central Cal for #PhotoMonday. This one gets the #Monochrome treatment. Fitting, as it was a somewhat gray day with on and off rain. Harbor/pier view with a line kayaker heading toward the beach.

Why is #macOS deciding to re-mount volumes I explicitly ejected since 26.4? Seems to happen whenever the mac wakes from sleep. Grumble.

I was going to take a picture of the cat yard art as I’d just 3D printed it a new body. Then the flowers grabbed my attention. #PhotoMonday

A #PhotoMonday image of what I'd have liked to see today, not the gray sky and rain I actually saw. At least the rain broke long enough to take a walk.

#SwiftLang odditity. When can't you trust string count? When you need to add a \r for reasons let string1 = “12345\r” let string2 = “12345\r\n” string1.count == string2.count Both are of size 6 which is not helpful when trying to build a network packet and need to count ALL the bytes. Grumble. I kind of remember this from way back when.

I really should remove these outdoor speakers. They are 30+ years old and never used because they sound like crap. But the birds find it a place to nest almost every year. This #PhotoMonday image is from a couple years ago. This year the nest is on top of its companion speaker on the other side of an 8' sliding door.

After some web site under-the-covers changes I was checking access logs and noticed that 301 redirects never go away, they just get expanded. Example: the site hosts an archive of messages from an email list that went away in 2013. Messages are still being referenced by “http://host.name/path/message.html%E2%80%9D in spite of 301 redirects to “https://www.host.name/path/message.html%E2%80%9D that have been in place a very long time. I guess the redirects I just added do to some renames may nev...

A #PhotoMonday image taken years ago. I saw a “door" picture posted by @sidewalksafari and thought “hey, I've got at least one of those” This is the one that came to mind.

The status of the web in 2026 from my tiny little corner… I have a small web site. It is mainly for family, a local motorcycle group, and the home page of an app I maintain that has active users. I’d realistically expect to get maybe 100-200 hits a day, sometimes less, probably more after an app update. What do I actually see? ⁃ 10K to 15K daily hits from known bots ⁃ 2k to 3K initial page hits — guess: mostly unknown bots The pages that are hit enough times to make my "top twenty...
