I am a polite software developer and I am always committed to the bit. I will be your favorite app maker’s favorite app maker.

I am enamored by user-facing software, especially mobile, and especially iOS. Swift is my current weapon of choice but I will use any made-up word to solve any problem. I ship my side projects for free.

I run this single-user Mastodon instance in good faith and I intend to keep it that way.

You shouldn’t personify AI, which is why I made my dot in the likeness of Kirby.

We had our work cut out for us eavesdropping at dinner last night.

The simple reason that AI progress will keep accelerating is that the people building the technology have the same opportunity to keep accelerating and delegating more of their work as we do. Opus 5.5 got to be built with Mythos 5.1, Mythos 5.5 with Opus 5.5 (or something), etc.

The topic du jour sucks because it is trolling and then the reaction to being trolled. All we’re doing is wasting time on our phones. If you don’t like the place you’re wasting time then you’re probably not present to receive the message to be elsewhere. If you do then you will resent the message.

I love to hear great artists describe their work as discovery. Paul McCartney talks about pulling songs out of the air; Thomas Harris says that he wrote The Silence of the Lambs by watching it unfold; Kyle Hughes builds software abstractions by seeing the shapes of solutions that already exist.

I take no pride in performatively posting about reading a book, but I had to do it ‘em.

I bought my Kindle Oasis (2019) with cellular connectivity and it still works. It’s the primary reason I travel with it. E-readers peaked so long ago.

It is not obviously the case that all software systems we rely on need to be understood by humans. That was just a coincidental property of the last 80 years of software systems. Humans rely on many systems that we don’t understand. The systems just need to be observable and, ideally, predictable.

When I “did my own research” on which migraine preventative to start taking, I was struck by how effective placebos were. Emgality users averaged 5 fewer migraine days per month, and placebo users 2.8 fewer. https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:66zrnrnuvwt64rpy6helxxmo/post/3mxrzpi4ivk2o

When I deboard a plane every movement is calculated. I act with complete serenity in contrast to the chaos around me. Every breath intentional. I stand not a second too soon. I dance with grace.

I have not opened Xcode in at least one year and I have done more and better Apple platform development than ever before in that time. I don’t know what I should take from that observation. One day you’ll pick up your child for the last time ever and there’s no way to know when it will happen.

Intelligence is now a liquid and my job is to design human-problem-shaped containers and the plumbing that connects them. (Still workshopping this.)

I went with my parents to a pizza place. When we were done I went to the bathroom. I came out, flagged down the kid behind the counter, whispered to him, and showed him to the bathroom. Then I ushered my family out of the restaurant without bussing our table. They thought I clogged the toilet.

I didn’t see anyone talking about this: at Google I/O they announced that AI Studio can generate and install full Android apps from the browser, no local development environment required. Soon they will allow Play Store distribution. The slop horizon is imminent. https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2026/05/build-android-apps-google-ai-studio.html

A lot of Gen X humor, as observed by younger generations, is “pointing out hypocrisy with edgy language.” It doesn’t land for anyone else. What is the flavor of consistent Millennial humor that only Gen Z can articulate? https://kolektiva.social/@MikeDunnAuthor/116630949881066185
