Yes I finally snagged the bgenc.com domain! Someone had been just sitting on it for the last few years but they didn’t renew. I had to use .net instead. Also grabbed .dev for good measure.

I hadn’t touched #Python in forever, getting back into it now for my new job and wow, I forgot how elegant python is. On the other hand, also wow that #VSCode’s python support still isn’t great. I should try #PyCharm again.

I spent my last 2 weekends and weekday nights building a #TypeScript RPC library… only to just find out #tRPC exists and does exactly what I was building. Ooof. https://trpc.io

https://fosstodon.org/@kaan/111115650638414379 Just figured out this mystery: #Docker bypasses #UFW because it sets up its routing rules before UFW. I don’t think this was in their docs when I was dealing with this, it is now at least.

What’s everyone’s preferred method for deploying containers to your own servers? I usually just write a docker-compose file, ssh over and deploy that manually. But I’m wondering how I might automate this with CI. #Ansible? Switch to #Kubernetes, or #Terraform? I have experience with AWS #CDK and I really liked it, but I don’t want to deploy to AWS or any other cloud.

@daedalus Might be a little too much for what I’m looking for right now, yeah.

I built a little public API where you can get random words, IDs, or numbers! https://rnd.bgenc.dev/ This was a cool opportunity to learn #GoLang, it's using #GoFiber in the backend. The website demo UI uses #Preact with #TailwindCSS and #DaisyUI, built with #Vite, all deployed via #Kamal & #Tailscale. I'm not sure that I'm in love with Go, but I can't say it's not productive. Preact is awesome and I am now obsessed with Preact signals.

Trying to get a tabletop RPG group together is like herding cats. I'm trying to put together a game online, I had 3 players drop out over the last 2 weeks before we could even begin. 1 of them had IRL stuff come up so of course I understand, but 2 of them just blocked and ghosted me. Honestly undermines your confidence, like "Am I doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with me?" I'm so grateful for the players who stayed and who encourage me. #TTRPG

I had my #naturalization interview today! I was hoping I could get this done before the election and vote, but hopefully next time lol. So I’m becoming a US citizen soon! Also picked out a middle name for myself, soon gonna be Kaan C. Barmore-Genc :blobfoxblushmore: Is this how trans folk picking a new name feel? lol. #Immigration #USCIS

So I needed a WebP encoder for a Go project where I had #CGO disabled. I found there is an option using #libwebp compiled to #wasm running on #wazero, but that's pretty slow and uses lots of memory. So I made a pure #GoLang encoder, ported from a Rust encoder then optimized: https://github.com/SeriousBug/webp-go-pure#webp-go-pure I managed to get better performance than the WASM version! Both encoding speed and memory use, although compression rate and quality is a bit worse. #webdev...
