  Just heard The Talk Show ep 452 with Quinn Nelson @snazzyq as guest. As a native Spanish speaker, I found it hilarious to hear @gruber quibbling about Siri’s pronunciation of the word “turnpike”. He complains that Siri pronounced it as t-OH-rnpike. Native english speakers swear they pronounce the “u” as a “u”, ut as dar as I’m concerned y’all say t-EH-rnpike. I love English, and I consider it my primary language, but its handling of vowels could only be properly described by a Monty Python skit...

  I have been reading up on Rust as I have lost faith in mobile development as a career. That being said, I keep learning of little details in Rust that make me want to run back to Swift (and no, the borrow checker is not a problem)

  My sister passed away last August 15. Allegedly, she was on the Asperger spectrum. She lived with my parents her whole life, all 45 years, mostly in Honduras, but the last 3 in Costa Rica. She died from complications of what initially seemed like a routine surgical procedure while they were visiting in Honduras. The sheer outpouring of love for her was staggering. When initially diagnosed, my parents were told she would never amount to anything, she probably would never walk, let alone talk....

  I’ve been debugging this issue for longer than I care to admit. I had to make some changes to our authentication code, and why I test it with our dummy auth sample app, I just get a blank screen. I put breakpoints everywhere I can think of and everything seems to work fine. After <undisclosed amount of time> it occurred to me to hit the home button on the simulator. Still, nothing but black screen. Kill simulator, launch again, everything works! Lovely way to spend <undisclo...
