The current Eurokickyball kerfuffle reminds me, very obliquely, of a series of tweets by iowahawk from 2024: “Olympic breakdancing illustrates how America invents a thing, then some dorkwads in France somehow appoint themselves as the Federation Internationale de Thing (FITHI) to control the rules of global thinging. And then FITHI moves their HQ to a chalet in Switzerland, with a whole governing council of corrupt Thing potentates from around [...] America: invents 500 genres of popular music...

Is the type found inside British passports just plain old Bembo or some kind of fancier Bembo?

The Rise and Fall of Rational Control by Harvey Mansfield, published by the Belknap Press at Harvard University in 2025, is an excellent specimen of Adobe Kis in use as body text, including the Caption size in the notes and index. I’d post it on Fonts In Use if I could figure out what the sans is on the dust jacket. https://www.hup.harvard.edu/books/9780674298859 https://assets.fonts.adobe.com/8t06wnuduvo9hkf0wpprcmhyfycr

Before everyone was complaining about ChatGPT, no one was complaining about Wolfram Alpha, nor should they. https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2026/09/whats-the-future-for-pure-math-research-in-the-age-of-ai/

I spotted this X post just now and immediately thought of @TiroTypeworks ’ Clairvo. https://x.com/beffjezos/status/2109207986782740686/photo/1

Stylebot is half of what I’ve been searching for for years: a simple tool that lets me change all text on Wikipedia from Arial to Castoro or any other font. And then I learned about “Specificity Wars.” Which is why it doesn’t work at all on here, or on X, and Facebook and Wikipedia need several passes, and then still some of the older font remains.

Despite all the hysterical complaints about AI and data centers, I will never tire of AI-generated Adventures of JD Vance.

I just found this tech rabbit hole that is no doubt of interest to some font folks, even though there’s no strict font content I can spot. https://yedlin.net/NerdyFilmTechStuff/

The preview mechanism on MyFonts seems to center each glyph vertically in its square, making for a rather jarring presentation. Example: Van Dijck.

You might be impersonating a police officer if you’re also impersonating a font.

“Calligraphy” is the name of the top luxury trim available on the 2026 Hyundai Palisade. Which essentially comes across the way Doug Demuro pronounces it.

I just noticed that GhostScript seems to have somehow changed its license from GPL to commercial, which I never imagined possible with GPL. (I’m partial to MIT/BSD-style licenses for FOSS.) And I could swear it’s not the first I’ve spotted recently. What other free software software is suddenly being fed after midnight?

Casually looking around for an 1867 printing of the Divine Comedy with Dorés engravings at original size, I chanced upon this 1938 printing from Berlin with a rather ghoulish dedication page, but more interestingly, some kind of uncial grotesk attempt in the body type. Elsewhere some Walbaum and what might be Genzsch-Antiqua. https://www.ebay.com/itm/235196758869?_skw=Dante+Alghieris+G%C3%B6ttliche+Kom%C3%B6die&itmmeta=01K83DH3JS9GKB8WZD4SP85DJF&hash=item36c2d1bb55:g:wO0AAOSwcfV...

Font detective work is in the news again, this time faked screenshots accusing Ben Shapiro of writing bigoted remarks about Candace Owens. https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/laughably-fake-candace-owens-charlie-kirk-slave-texts-debunked-analyst-1753585

I don’t know if it’s edit wars, something else, or some combination, but the quality of Wikipedia has been deteriorating for years, and Musk’s fork Grokipedia is now in the ascendant. Compare articles on: Scangraphic, Otto Hupp, Gerrit Noordzij, 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate, Ditran, Adobe Framemaker, kalmia latifolia. The one area where Wikipedia wins is illustrations (Grokipedia 0.2 currently has none.) I suspect Grokipedia 1.0 will have illustrations.
