Because looking fancy shouldn’t come at the cost of legibility. I’m seriously terrified how many people prefer the totally clear glass.

RE: https://mastodon.online/@9to5Mac/117430268971065486 Many people buy their first Mac and immediately install Chrome, because they are used to Windows and that’s what you do there. It’s not just this, they try to “windowfy” their Mac even more, sometimes to a point where I ask why they even got a Mac on the first place.

“Apple HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union, as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU.” F this, it doesn’t work without AI or what?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@BasicAppleGuy/117435601417111370 Very unpopular opinion: I might actually like it. Would prefer a little bit of color like 2015-2020, but at the same time I can kinda see the metaphor of musical notation being black.

Latest Apple Watch, the new HomeView – somebody at Apple must be a fan of large bezels. I have some understanding for bezels for devices we hold in our hands to prevent accidental touches, but a wearable or a docked screen don’t need such huge bezels.

The new volume and brightness controls in macOS 27.2 are obviously sized for touch. Touch MacBooks are definitely coming and ai think it’s a mistake. Laptops are not touch devices, we have amazing best-in-class trackpads, and I don’t want fingerprints on my screen. I hope they release non-touch MacBooks alongside the touch ones.

The new iPad mini doesn’t have a 120 Hz display? Are you kidding me?

A mindset of a 5-year-old. BTW, I’ve checked like 5 times if this is some sort of satire. 😅

Touch is cool. For one week. We’ve got a great trackpad, whyyy do we need to touch the displays, fill them with smudges and our fingerprints?

RE: https://mastodon.design/@jirirbr/117523113256400183 Apple have lost themselves. I wish there was an alternative, but Android isn’t good enough. The iOS visual bugs keep piling up, interconnectivity between devices being is wonky sometimes, and now these weird hardware choices, trying to be in all spaces, I just don’t get it. Also the iPad Air and the latest Mini still without a 120Hz display. Come on, focus!

RE: https://mastodon.design/@matthewskiles/117350114878081310 You may ask why, but I often forget what I have in the fridge, so it might be an app exactly for me. Especially with such a beautiful icon, as I also like to keep my home screen nice.

RE: https://tech.lgbt/@ngaylinn/116544677412109803 There’s two types of juniors: 1) People you hire as your employees, and those are definitely people you want to train. Nobody became a senior right away. 2) People you get just to increase velocity, who don’t deliver much and who don’t have the potential or long-term perspective in the company, often from a different country. And this velocity can now be obtained by using agentic AI.

RE: https://mastodon.design/@mariusz/116441583528178660 “Artificial intelligence is entering the design process not because our profession voted it in, but because institutions perceive it as faster, cheaper, and more scalable than keeping a human being in the loop for every deliverable.” Also humans have full cost of their work and time spec’d out. But I think companies rushing to market with AI agents to gain traction are currently selling the services under the real cost - to gain traction...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@daringfireball/116459876059934333 Interesting that the same kind of law is now passing in European countries, including the UK. I think people should be left to smoke whatever they want legally. The extreme taxes make up for whatever costs come with it. And if I may be cynical, here in Czechia we sometimes say that smokers die sooner so the pension system benefits. 🙈

I find it interesting how creativity in IT is so easily delegated to AI, while we would never accept it for other art such as music or movies.

I’m refining a simple website designed in Figma, which I am just lazy to code because I’d rather use the time designing than coding. Somehow I’m doing much better with Cursor than Claude. Or Cursor doesn’t run out of its free plan in just a couple commands.

#LiquidGlass pain. This time with Apple Health. When you slow down the video, you can see how “hacky” the animations are, icons being out of place, etc.

It’s somehow much more pleasant when the animation is simple instead of “liquid”. Apparently they kept it simple in Sports, and I love it.
