Before the year is out, I'm going to make a new journal for 2025. Charles Darwin had a notebook that was bound at the head instead of the side. It measured 170 x 130 mm. https://darwin-online.org.uk/content/frameset?itemID=EH88202328&viewtype=text&pageseq=1 The size is perfect for when I would like to insert photos on certain occasions. #bookbinding #journal #notebook

I finished binding two books in the first two days of 2025! The first is a size A5 notebook done in a variation of the crisscross binding. Each hole has six stitches. #bookbinding #notebook #journal

@mlanger Same. Which is why a ordered a rectangular hollow punch so I can make cleaner holes rather than use a screwdriver again. The two-string version would probably be better with thicker thread.

@mlanger I have a punch cradle, DIY and also recently was gifted one bought from Talas. I ended up making punching templates instead as how DAS Bookbinding does it since I found that much easier.

@mlanger Also, let me know what kind of drill bit you end up using? I've been meaning to get drill bits for my bookbinding, but I'm not really sure what to look for.

@mlanger I do have a couple drills (heavy duty and low powered ones). But the bits I have are large and mostly for masonry. I bought bits for wood when I needed to do a simple project, but again large-ish. If I'm to buy new bits for drilling into a textblock and thick board, I need to know what to get. Do twist bits work?
