The worst thing is when your trying to arrange a meeting in a hurry and people INSIST on telling exactly why they ARENT available for a long time due to family events / sports etc and you have to listen for ages to discern when they ARE available 🙈

Here's a thread on some things I think I learned about Mary Magdalene while writing 'A Mary Magdalene Experience' https://www.gracedyas.com/current-1/amarymagdaleneexperience The Mary Magdalene we know is a composite of loads of women called Mary who were around Jesus. The Early Church put all the stories together and created one 'Mary Magdalene' character so that there would be less women in the story of Jesus.

A woman called Mary recorded her experiences with Jesus. This is the 'Gospel of Mary'. She talked about her work leading the Jesus Cult and how he loved her more than the others. We say - “This is the Gospel Truth” but in reality there are many different gospels and many different truths. The myth that she was a prostitute was based on a story where one of these women called Mary had a very expensive ointment - called 'Spikenard' and they said you had to be a sex worker if you had something so expensive. Mary Magdalene is treated as a saint and celebrated on her feast day (22 July) in countries across Europe. Ireland is the only country that associates her almost singularly with shame, because of the Magdalene Laundries.

There is nothing in anything I have read that would suggest that the teachings of Mary Magdalene have anything to do with what the Sister's of Mercy did in her name. "Mary Magdalene is sorry for everything that was done in her name" The Mary Magdalene Character - the flawed shamed mad woman only important because Jesus forgave her - has become a trope for many men writing women in stories ever since. There's even reason to believe that Shakespeare based Opheli...

The reason for all the lies about her is this: what's at stake is spiritual authority. Who gets to guide us in what we believe, who gets to decree our spiritual life. They decided that those people had to be men. I believe the spiritual authority is within all of us

Eamon Dunphy on #TheLateLateShow @thelatelateshow “We don’t have a far right here. We don’t have hate. Anyone who comes here is welcomed.” Audience erupts in applause Completely unchallenged. Cognitive acrobatics of middle Ireland 🙈 #irishtwitter
