RE: https://chaos.social/@icing/117398069550473355 I’ve complained about this before, but this is not something you can usefully do from the front-end. If we really want things zeroed, we need compiler functionality that asks the back end to ensure that the data is gone as soon as possible after it’s no longer needed and no later than when the function returns, either by having the register or memory reused, or cleared if there’s no good reuse opportunity

BIRDING PRO TIP: on iOS, you can start listening with Merlin Bird ID by opening the URL merlinbirdid://record. This means you can make that a shortcut, which in turn means you can assign it to your iPhone’s action button for lightning-fast bird identification (or put it on your lock screen, or on your home screen, etc). https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/a085949a537740788656c34dcb2294e5

TIL that you can use [[clang::always_inline]] on a statement, and that tells clang to try to inline every call in that statement: `[[clang::always_inline]] foo(bar());` will ask it to inline both bar and foo

I used to laugh at “thoughts and prayers” but every day I find out a new way that computers literally run on thoughts and prayers and the fact they’re not more broken than they are is making me question my (lack of) faith

Probably preaching to the choir given how much of my esteemed following is AI-h8ing, but: If I engage with you and you give me an AI response, we are automatically spending an extremely asymmetric amount of effort towards each other. In online spaces, we call that “trolling”
