If you don’t teach your children about opsec, they will absolutely not learn about it on the street because no one else’s kids seem to know either.

Autocorrect, I don’t know why you think there’s a lot of rudeness or river traffic in my life, but I assure you: as a cat owner, I type ‘barfed’ way more often than ‘barged’!

Me reading review of The Long Good Friday (1980ish): Huh. I didn’t mind the synth music. It was appropriately tawdry, and very much of the period. Me waking up and having the main theme of The Long Good Friday stuck in my head: … it’s not appropriate to my peaceful weekend morning, but I refuse to hate it for that! 😬😬😭 (For reference: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3X9twpA6Wiw)

I cannot help it: my cats look so sweet and babyish to me when they are viciously attempting to destroy a toy. It’s the dilated pupils! Neoteny is a helluva drug. #CatsOfMastodon

I was getting out of my car yesterday about 6 miles from a recently active wildfire. AQI 150 with visibly poor air. An older woman nearby indicated my mask. “That’s not a bad idea!” We exchanged a few more sentences before she sat down on a bench and lit up a cigarette. In her defense, the cigarette did have a filter. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #MaskUp #PacificNorthwest #WildfireSmoke

I feel like by photographing this water strider on the lazy creek the other day, l accidentally made it into a constellation or perhaps banished it to the Phantom Zone. CN: close-up of bug #NaturePhotography

Apparently the Maritime Museum of San Diego is planning to permanently close the HMS Surprise to the public as restoration would be more expensive than they expected ($25 million.) Once again I am wishing the goddamn billionaires would spend their stupid money in cool, whimsical ways, since this would be less than a day’s passive income for the foremost money-hoarders. 🤬 (Sorry for FB link, but that seems to be how the museum is communicating: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18vn45Xv6L/) #HMS...

Young birds today. They spend all their time on their plumage and have the nerve to yell “SNACKS? SNACKS?” at every adult that zooms by! (Juvenile barn swallow, Fanno Creek watershed) #BirdPhotography #birding #oregon #wetlands

This is Doc. Whenever Doc tries to achieve his dreams (being in his person’s lap) he gets distracted by irrelevancies (reflections of sunlight off her watch-face). So they stay forever apart, gazing lovingly across an impassable 2-foot gap of sunshine. Don’t be like Doc! Keep your eyes on your goals! #CatsOfMastodon

It is surprising how many colors there are in a black cat. Her pelt of course is brown as well as black; but her black beans have a blush of lilac, and the sun shines white and silver on her fur, while the blush pink of her ears extends onto her little face on either side. Her little mouth is just touched with pink as if she tasted a powder puff, and of course her lovely eyes are bronze with a slight green patina. (Yes, I am bonkers over this little cat.) #CatsOfMastodon #blackCat

Watched the dude bagging my groceries today like a hawk, on the slightly unfair basis that a man who can remark to his coworker in that illiberal way that he “doesn’t like genre books” might very well stow my little cups of yogurt under my canned goods, “assistant manager” tho’ he be. 😠

I've been visiting a hairy woodpecker nest hole in a forested park over the last week and a half, and today a little woodpecker stuck eir head out! My vantage is too far away to be sure how many hatchling voices are begging when the parents come with grubs and insects, but I've spied at least the one! #BirdPhotography #wildForWoodpeckers #oregon #birding

One year ago today we got our amazing kitties: Doc Cochran and Alma, the Widow Garret! They have brought all the chaos we expected and even more sweetness and snuggles than we dared hope. When we brought them home, shy Doc was very intent on hiding in safe places, while his curious sister explored and called him if she found something really important. (More often, he called her back to cuddle!) She is still the leader, and they still love each other very much! #CatsOfMastodon #Adoptiversary

My cats were snuggled up especially adorably last #caturday and I forgot to post them, so I made a little project of trying to capture them being cute together every day this week. I only missed Tuesday! (When I only photographed them being cute separately.) Caturday everyday! (1/2 -- hoping to get a good snuggle photo today before posting second batch!) #CatsOfMastodon

Alma is a sophisticated lady-cat who absolutely could get the mousey toy out of this bowl if that was her aim. She would never sit on it and then scrabble comically. She’s just hanging out here being extremely casual, as you can see. #CatsOfMastodon

Feeling restless. Want to convince someone to watch John Frankenheimer’s 1964 masterpiece THE TRAIN, full of real trains and real Burt Lancaster doing their own stunts! French resistance fighters and railway workers trying to stop an SS colonel from stealing one last trainload of art treasures before the Allies arrive in Paris! Suspenseful and gritty and beautifully filmed in B&W! Rent on AppleTV or stream on AmazonPrime! Is it bedtime? Or is it THE TRAIN time?! #movies #recommendation

Have seen the word ‘regretful’ in news stories twice today, both times dubiously used in a pro forma apology. Is this tortured usage standard for nonpologies? “‘Your honor, I understand that my actions are regretful,’ he told the judge who heard his case. Although he knew he’d broken the law, he silently stewed, believing he was a victim of government retribution…” (Jan. 6 rioter quoted in WaPo) If regret is genuine, it’s felt by a subject, not vaguely pinned near some actions.
