https://designingfriction.com/ Thought provoking. Really good read. I deliberately try to "cause friction" in my life too because I noticed at some point that life can get boring otherwise and my ability to come up with new ideas gets crippled. But how to apply it to design? (found link to this on former Dutch design studio's website, which has really cool mixed media art showcases: https://studiomoniker.com/projects) #design #digitalart #technology #friction #antit...

The recent attacks by Israeli Colonists on european delegation and on journalists is terrible, but let's not forget that this, and much worse and frequent, is what Palestinian Civilians have to endure.

Just attended my first Maps & Talks event in Vienna and the talk given by Dorothée Post (https://dorotheepost.de/), a Geographer and Illustrator, was very interesting and inspiring. Also all the new people I met there were amazing and loved the after-presentation chat :) #cartography #geography

"Do minor curl vulnerabilities in the open" https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2026/10/20/do-minor-curl-vulnerabilities-in-the-open/ I find this approach reasonable and practical. Well written post that also gives us a peek into what's it like to deal with the security topic of a widely used open source software in the age of LLMs. LLMs can be used to come up with obscure ways to exploit software (in very, very specific settings from what I understand), but where to draw the...

Incredibly thankful to every fediverse poster who has mentioned the PHP high vulnerability which will get a fix at 14:00 UTC. Woke up, opened mastodon, and was blasted with people mentioning it (thankfully). Can't update exactly at that time so took down my public web facing php services now. I see a lot of trending posts and people I follow post about selfhosting and how difficult it is, and why we need communities instead. So I wanted to share to all the non-selfhosters (and anyone really who'd like to join such a community) to checkout private.coffee (https://private.coffee/). Lovely bunch with lots of community hosted foss services. #selfhosting #community #services #foss

@rysiek@mstdn.social This year I tested out how easy is it to exercise your right to be forgotten with RyanAir and it was one of the worst companies to deal with. In case it's interesting I'll link my thread about it: https://mastodon.online/@dlsl/116512661113196158

Because of my last boost (of https://palantirwatch.org/) reminder that Finnish authorities have been and still use Palantir. With a different name to deceive us from the fact. (Finnish National Broadcasting Company article in Finnish: https://yle.fi/a/74-20221793). I used to have trust in Finnish authorities. Now I have almost none.

I really like the "mute" functionality of Mastodon to curate my hashtag feed. Following hashtags, especially very general ones, usually fills my feed entirely with super active posters that are totally okay (I don't want to dictate what other's post on a hashtag) but often those posters post content I'm not interested in. Blocking is too harsh in most cases in this situation so I am really grateful for the mute button. #mastodon

hjelp, how do I create a blockquote in a mastodon post via the default mastodon web UI? > I've tried greater-than sign ``` backticks ``` "quotation marks" „Searching the web“ « Summoning a forest demon for assistance » I'm all out of ideas. Blockquote search brings me to markdown guides that don't seem to work in mastos web UI and quote-word search is showing things about mastodon's post quote. #mastodon #post #quote

Sat next to someone in a train who was talking to his partner on his phone. He had one of those "smart glasses" and that's how I found out these have speakers built into them. I heard their entire conversation. I wasn't even trying to listen but these glasses can't really output sound in a way that only you, the wearer, would hear it. I find the tech bit awkward. I don't really understand the trend behind these glasses. #glasses #meta #rayban

You know that website you have which you are not sure if anyone is checking out and reading? You've got a gold nugget and I'm just passing by, admiring it, and checking out what you've made with appreciation that you put time into this and shared it with the world. I am sick of web search and the useless LLM generated content/websites that could have been 50 paragraphs shorter and are just so optimized for the web crawlers it appears at the top of every search result. Oh nice, Forgejo has repository migration tool that covers most git forges! Time to migrate my projects from GitLab, which I escaped to few years back from GitHub. #forgejo #git #development #software

I'm having a bit of a "LLM burnout". Started using internal one at work only recently. Had been avoiding the use of LLMs for coding for many reasons, but then I started feeling like I'm being left behind in my field. I read level-headed takes and instructions of how to use "Coding Agents" and refused anything but open-source/-weight models. Had success because I can do the same myself, but it's too much. Too much code to read, check,...
