Etiquette tips for those of you who send AI note takers to meetings: 1. Don't. 2. If you still do, find a way to turn off *all* the messages they post in the meeting chat. Nobody benefits from that garbage and they obscure messages from real people.

Most people misunderstand the Schrödinger's Cat Paradox. It's not that the cat is neither dead nor alive until it is observed. It's about a cat standing in a doorway and not being able to decide which side of the door it wants to be on, while you are standing there observing it. #physics

Sad and surprised to hear of Dolly Parton's passing. She was an amazing, admirable person in so many ways. RIP.

I switched to Apple Maps a long time ago, so I don't need to rage quit Google Maps now. Although, while Apple Maps shows Lake Ontario, it mislabels the Gulf of Mexico.

RIP Gloria Steinem. She did so much for the lives of women and made us men better people as a result.

@intrepidhero @thisisraerae About a decade ago, I went into an outdoor shop in Mammoth Lakes, CA, turned a corner, and saw hanging on the wall the external frame backpack I used in high school and college. I forget the brand name now... Definitely a trip down memory lane.

Make sure you watch and "thumbs up" Jimmy Kimmel's interview with James Talarico. "What would Jesus do?" is worth asking again... Also, give the finger to the FCC authoritarians who don't want Talarico to win his Senate race. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLDE9LrGpNk

Don't forget to comment on this proposed change to the Roadless Rule, which would allow exploitation of the few remaining wilderness areas in the US, destroying their unique character forever. https://www.regulations.gov/document/FS-2025-0001-223869/comment

An interesting @theatlantic.com panel discussion with Andrew Card and Karl Rove about their experiences the day of 9/11, but it ends with an excellent rant by Rove about the bigots, etc. who are polluting the Republican Party https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2HB8XA-f7M

I'm old enough to have been a software engineer during the web/.com explosion in the 90s. I think about that time vs. this current AI era a lot. I had no doubts about the web being massively successful, despite missteps (pets.com...). I'm not at all convinced about AI yet. We'll see...

The whole racist backlash in "some quarters" against Bad Bunny and hispanic culture, in general, is not just bad, it's clueless and pathetic. Young people have largely embraced music from alternative cultures for a long time, starting with black music in the 20s with Jazz, Rock, Soul, and Hip Hop, up to K-Pop more recently. Probably even earlier...

I have noticed over the years that interest in programming languages comes in waves. In the 80s and early 90s, when object-oriented programming was "hot", it inspired many new languages and interest in language design ideas. That ended when attention shifted to the new WWW. The 2010's were a similar "high-water" mark for functional programming and the languages it inspired. Now everyone is focused on AI, of course. Andrew Oram is writing a retrospectiv...
