It’s going to be the one year anniversary of my dad dying next week and I need to go see my mom in the place that’s taking care of her as soon as I can. I’m scared to see how much worse the dementia has gotten. A cool new job would really take the edge off my anxiety right now 😞

I wonder what the plan for Middle East Formula 1 races is in 2027? Feels like they should be considering the possibility things are still going on in a year over there. #F1

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com the cool thing about technology as a job is that you are always getting to learn and make decisions. I don’t know why anyone would want to give those up. It sounds miserable.

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com I really don’t think people recognize what they’re giving up at the micro and macro scale. For individuals, I think, depending too much on these things really hurts your ability to internalize and learn. I saw this when I was learning a new language and realized that three years ago I would’ve internalized things I was asking about repeatedly. At the medium scale, letting it independently write code for you seems absolutely insane based on knowing what the limit...

It’s so embarrassing for the president of the United States to be so preoccupied with something as stupid as a fucking ballroom.

Did that thing where I fell asleep so much during the day I can’t sleep at night. I’m just gonna have to force myself to wake up and go to work at the right time.

I was just woken up at 4 AM by what sounded like a loud knock on the door. Freaked out and awake now.

Oh no. Poor George Russell. I feel so bad for him right now.

I’m happy Lewis got a podium, but watching George go out like that was painful. #Formula1

I used a couple of regex and Ruby to strip color literals out of our code today and replace them with hex values. It was actually fun to figure out. Knowing regex and a scripting language is kind of superpower, even if you technically make your money writing something else.

I think I coded a little too close to the sun today and now my brain is tired.

Pretty pleased with myself at work the last couple of days as far as writing code that’ll help the team.

Do I know anyone else playing F1 25? I’d love to play with other people. Add me as a friend on PlayStation https://profile.playstation.com/FishermansPorch or on EA as FormulaTAS.

2026 update for the F1 25 game looks sick. Can’t wait to superclip in a video game 😂 https://youtu.be/HSrTjqf7_WY?si=sBaQjCBJP735jbHO

I’ve read five books in the past month. Not bad. If I could average four a month, that would be great.

The CEO of Verizon thinks we could have 20-30% unemployment in 5 years due to AI. I doubt it, but if that’s remotely true, let’s just ban it. We don’t always have to find new efficiencies or whatever. Technology exists to benefit humans.

This is what my VO2 max has done in the first two months of living in Australia without a car. Living in a city that has hills without a car can apparently do wonders.

After breaking my on my podcast editing hand, it feels just about healed enough to start again. Sorry about the delay for those who care. We have a couple in the can that I've just been waiting to be able to edit so they could go out.

Loving SwiftUI, missing UIKit. At this point, I am primarily working in SwiftUI. At work right now, we are doing macOS and iOS, and we’re not using AppKit or UIKit at all. Where I’m at right now in my thinking is that while I do like SwiftUI, I kind of miss the old way of doing things. UIKit and SwiftUI represent two different approaches to writing user interfaces — … http://collin.blog/2025/04/24/loving-swiftui-missing-uikit/

Karl is one of the best people I know, not just as a developer, but as a human. He's smart, too. You'd be lucky to have him on your frontend team. If you're on Rails, he can handle your frontend needs while also contributing to the backend. #JavaScript #ReactJS #AngularJS #Ruby #RubyOnRails https://ruby.social/@Kowfm/114671532290285272

@agiletortoise@mastodon.social @exchgr@mastodon.world either through the internet or in person, maybe it would be helpful for me to find a songwriting buddy to meet up with regularly and offer input on each others work.
