  How times have changed. Now spent hours trying to install Windows on a Lenovo X1 with a fresh drive (recent-ish - 2023). Drivers unavailable, reinstall media won't boot, drive can't be found, native drivers don't work. Ubuntu installed in 10 minutes.

  Some moments mean way more to people than people realise. I was reminded of a chap I went to a photography club with many many years ago recently. He was an absolutely brilliant photographer - he could make the most simple subject into a mesmorizing photo you just wanted to sit and stare at. His specialty was black and white, and he knew his medium - people could spot his pictures because they just stood out in the category.   Getting irritated seeing articles that are just "I don't see the point of X, therefore there is no point, people are stupid". Feels the same as every sweeping statement post "X worked perfectly for my project, therefore it is perfect for every project, people who don't do X are stupid". I'd love to be able to help these people expand their world view, so they can see why other things exist.
