I often forget about Danny DeVito the filmmaker. Then I watch something like "Drowning Mona" or "Death to Smoochy" and realize just how many quotable lines I still parrot daily from each of them. Do yourself a favour and revisit these if you haven't in some time.

Keep seeing a new Skip The Dishes ad featuring Seth Rogen where he says the word "drama" with a longer "a" sound (think "dr-ehm-ah") and it's bringing up some feelings. When I moved to Toronto out of high school from New Brunswick, I was made fun of as a hick for pronouncing it the same way. Took months to force myself to pronounce the more high-brow version (like "dr-ahh-ma") among other intentional changes to my phrasing and pronunciation. To this...

One of the few things I was truly optimistic and hopeful for out of the last Trump reign was that the "objective" tone from large media organizations would grow and understand that we no longer live in that world. When the leader of the US can ramble and spout out nonsense completely detached from reality without any push back or fact checking, there is no such thing as good faith "fair and balanced" reporting. Unfortunately, that never came to pass. Instead of writing him o...

Tried giving the 'Borderlands' movie a go (I played a lot of the second game and enjoyed it) with the kids. The first joke in the movie was literally ripped off of 'Spaceballs'. Needless to say, we didn't finish it.

It would be great if any of the "recipes picky kids will love" lists online had ever actually been tested with picky eaters. No, Susanne, my ASD son will never touch cheesy broccoli rice or French onion meatballs.

The coolest thing about being a software developer in 2026 is being more-or-less forced to use Claude Code (or other AI) every day at risk of losing one's job while the sky is literally yellow from forest fire smoke outside the window, largely because of climate change. I seriously can not comprehend or trust anyone with a brain that isn't severely disturbed by this.

At Pearson airport this morning, checking out one of the book stands, and was very happy to see Adam Shoalts promoted right up front! Wound up standing around and recommending his 'Ten Maps' book to a couple of other folks browsing the stand. So nice to see a Canadian adventure and history author in his prime and doing so well on the book shelves! (There was a photo to accompany this, but my mobile data is pretty terrible at the airport)

One of the best parts of the HD/4K era we're in is catching a movie on TV that you haven't seen in many, many years and getting to enjoy just how stunning it looks. Watching 'Jaws 2' currently after only having seen it on taped-from-TV VHS format and it looks incredible! The burned lady who gasolines and flares herself near the start is especially horrifying in this high quality.

The best part about David Bowie's career in music is the different mindsets and moods you can serve while staying entirely within his catalogue. For instance, today I'm in an 'I'm Deranged' (plus the rest of the Lost Highway soundtrack) kind of day which might shift into 'Blackstar' later. Obviously 'I'm Afraid Of Americans' has been a pretty frequent Bowie vibe for some time now as well - but that's almo...

Just a reminder, Rush's 1981 album 'Moving Pictures' is wall-to-wall phenomenal. Such a massive banger that it needs a license to operate in 6 provinces and 34 states.

If we get to the end of 2026 and 'Angine de Poitrine' is still the best thing to come out of this year, I will be content. Can't stop listening to these guys.

We need CanCon back for this current era. I firmly believe that we wouldn't have this Alberta separatist gong show or Maple MAGA if we were all still watching goofy, low budget Canadian shows instead of whatever American content is flooding across the border and poisoning us all. I never watched 'Nirvana The Band The Show' originally (being produced by Vice seemed like it'd be way too hipstery) but I lived and thrived in TO the same years the show was being made....

Pointless opinion: the weird lick from the guard of Sarah Connor is far more cinematically effective than the extensive "My name is Buck..." Scene in Kill Bill.

@3TomatoesShort@disabled.social the Monk & Robot series has been my hopeful escapism so far. Though I've only read the first book, so maybe it gets less optimistic and solar-punk ideal. Though I sincerely hope not.
