Hel’s Roads Happy spooky month! Inspired, as ever, by Lux Heljardottir's kennings for Hel, I've written some musings on the paths devotees might tread on the road to Hel. (Lux's list is basically a sacred text for me at this point so perpetual thanks to her!) Guardian of the ancestors: she of ghosts, spirits, burials, ancestors. Animal death; Hel of the Living Blood; Matron of the Dead; Bone Mother*; Bone Maiden; Mistress of Lost Graves; … https://cardinalcreates.wordpr...

Writing for Idunna To my delight, I have two pieces published in the latest edition of Idunna magazine! I wrote up a short text on my time at Hail and Horn Gathering 2026 at Raven's Knoll where we posted Idunna's godpole. It's always a joy to go to the Knoll, so it feels good to offer the Knoll folks a gift in kind by spreading their word-fame. https://cardinalcreates.wordpress.com/2026/08/15/writing-for-idunna/

She got it through a private transaction with four dwarves, who arranged to each have a private evening with Freyja. I’ve seen various interpretations of those private evenings: usually it’s assumed she had sex with them, but some folk have suggested, like in Ann Groa Sheffield's poem on Brisingamen*, she...

I bought a frame drum to use for storytelling and ritual. It is very satisfying to my hands to hit it. I'm slowly realizing that my job as a teacher is too brain-focused, and my body needs to MOVE. Am looking into martial arts schools for the same reason.
