RE: https://timeloop.cafe/@apLundell/117504561021421035 Thinking about last night's #Monsterdon film, I think it would be prudent to pre-plan the curses you're going to shout at the villagers as they burn you to death. You're probably not going to be thinking straight in the moment, so you want to have your speech memorized.

I genuinely enjoy that most LLM-based AI models will perform better if you specifically tell them not to make mistakes. I find that hilarious. And it gets funnier the more you anthropomorphize. Imagine a little robot sitting there thinking "Oh. Good thing you said—I was going to throw in a few mistakes for variety. I appreciate that you specified. Some users expect me to just magically know whether or not I should make mistakes."

Tough luck for whoever was tapped to play the SNL parody of the new press secretary.

How did old-timey house gas-lamps work anyway? Did they have to be lit with a match? Was it possible to turn them on without lighting them and then fill your house with gas?

I still love this control panel from last night's #monsterdon. Most of the switches, lights, and dials make some kind of logical sense. But, what was even going through the set decorator's mind when he built this?

Here's an image I got from a book on @gutenberg_org@mastodon.social. ("Old New England houses"). What is that gadget to the side of the house? Not the old canon, the wooden beam. I assume it's not a trebuchet. Is it some kind of crane?

It seems like there's a whole subgenre of video-games emerging about decoding alien signals. "Signal Simulator" "Voices of the Void" "1420MHz""The Message from Deep Space" There's probably more that I'm not aware of.

#monsterdon The good guys in this movie are christians, right? There was a crucifix earlier. There's a lot of magic-users for a christian questing party.

So, if I understand the conclusion to last night's #Monsterdon correctly : Super-intelligent wolves use the slums of New York as their hunting grounds. Specifically they hunt humans. Poor ones that nobody cares about. They (the wolves) are opposed to urban renewal because it would displace poor people. Displacing poor people is bad because they serve the purpose of providing a food source for wolves. The moral of the story is that It would be better and/or more in tune with nature to...

#Monsterdon So the bit about bad livers, was that misdirection? Or a metaphor for thinning the herd (of humans)? By why diseased livers in particular, then?

So, a few moments ago I saw a reference to the film "The Day After Tomorrow". I like that film and was wondering if it was based on a book. Turns out it is. It's based on the non-fiction book "The Coming Global Superstorm" That book was written by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber. I'd never heard of Whitley Strieber, so I looked him up, and it turns out he's best known for his debut novel "The Wolfen". #Monsterdon

Thinking about it more, last night's #Monsterdon "Earth vs the Spider" was obviously set in some sort of isolated pocket-world. Maybe a natural plateau like in "The Lost World", but probably something more artificial like "The Truman Show", or "It's a Good Life". Think about it. Nobody ever leaves town, and the only characters are locals known personally to the sheriff. The long distance lines are out, and never fixed. The nearby, but out-of-town...
